Out of nowhere, a huge fire surrounded me, the air grew thin making me struggle to breathe. It got closer and closer until I could feel it hit my skin, my dress already burned emitting an unusual odor.
I would want to jump my way out but the fire is too high. In this big field, no one ever tried to move to save me from this scorching ring. They did not even bother to conceal their presence while standing the
I smirked when a thought came to mind. I suddenly understood Hunle's intentions of cornering me. They feared us yet they also want to see why we are worthy of such fear. Curiousness can really kill.
I was not supposed to do this but I'm not one to back down when being stepped on.
My lips moved as strings of words left my lips. The wind moved, bringing with her the fire that now seemed to dance a bit wilder.
The fire started to lose its heat. The suffocation that I was feeling vanished and the fire slowly decreased.
I smirked when the decreasing fire showed me Hunle's face gaping at me with eyes wide in shock.
You've heard of our ability, but you have never really seen it, didn't you?
'Don't use it carelessly, Nesrin.' I mentally groaned when I remembered my parents' warning.
This ability was the reason why they feared us in the first place and like their warning, I really used it too carelessly. But they forced me mom, dad. And I want to let her eat the curiosity that's too big of a serving.
My lips moved again but now the fire completely vanished.
I slowly walked towards Hunle with this first degree burnt body. Painwould surge as the wound tugged with every step I'm making but Hunle's priceless face can pay for it.
"I think I heard a saying that goes like "generosity demands reciprocity." I whispered.
And with that, the fire that vanished suddenly appeared again, but not in front of me. It's with Lady Hunle.
I stepped back as I watched the fire grow larger by the second. Much larger than the one she tried to burn me with.
Hunle's cries of anger and fear echoed through the grounds. The burning red fire flowed stronger that a hint of blue could be seen. I can sense the atmosphere become intense when they hear her scream. More so when the flame flickered blue.
I furrowed my brows upon feeling a strong aura surround me. The fire I moved to Lady Hunle was now starting to blow out and a very strong sinister intent was approaching me from behind. My eyes narrowed as the alarms in my head rang. In instinct, my hand reached for the dagger I tied on my thigh. My hand that was holding the dagger swung to my back. It slashed through the air with a chilling sound but I stopped it all of a sudden.
The heavy atmosphere became stagnant, the wind that was unusually blowing than normal stopped, too. Hunle's whimpers seemed to have been blocked or was her voice covered by the loud silence.
I closed my eyes and then took a deep breath before I released the dagger from my hand. It fell on the grassy ground with a soft thud, breaking the silence that unknowingly surrounded the field.
From my bent knees that I folded to insert strength to my hand swinging the dagger, I stood and turned around… to the person wielding the sword that's pointed at my neck. The reason why I surrendered my dagger.
"Fiance~," I dragged my words softly. Trying to appear intimate but the glint in my eyes gave away my true intentions.
"Lady Asteria," the prince that stood a few steps away from me called out.
"Prince Nion," Herb Nion, the kingdom's heir. I acknowledged him but my gaze never met him. It remained with the person in front of me who does not have any plan of retracting his blade.
"What do you mean by this, your highness?" An ambush to end or capture me to get a hold of the island? In the middle of the day, with a lot of nobles watching? Well, I guess they won't mind since they fear us in the most obvious way. So, what's the point of this treaty? To hold me captive, and control the phrasers? I think they won't stoop that low but if their fear piled up tremendously maybe they would.
These questions rang around my head as I watched that fiery gaze, both figuratively and literally. Blazing eyes but with a cold ability.
The tip of his sword that is inches away from me is frozen and a smoke would constantly sway from it, shouting the word cold.
"Can you stop the fire, Lady Asteria?" Prince Herb said. His tone was indifferent but all of us here know that what he said was not a request but a command.
I turned my head to watch him when I heard those words but my Aqwin earned the right to take my gaze again when his sword followed my head when it moved.
I grinned, "Can't bear for me to look at another guy?" He just watched me seriously and ignored my teasing. The grin on my face remained when I received such a response. He does not think that I did not see his eyes twitch in annoyance, right?
"Your highness," my face turned serious and I shifted my gaze to the prince, "This is a training, right? I suppose I haven't done anything wrong."
"You haven't," he said with certainty.
"But you can," my eyebrows raised when my mind thought of what he was pertaining to.
"Do I have to?" You are the prince, your highness. But you're a student too. And I don't follow leaders who are not worthy of the names they wear..
"The fight is already finished, Lady Asteria. The victor is already decided. I hope you can let her go. 'Para sa hilom'," my eyes widened when I heard Islauth's language from his lips. Why does he know it?
'Para sa hilom," for peace. He's using it against me. Especially when that's the reason why I am here.
Series of words escaped from my lips and the blazing fire vanished in an instant. Lady Hunle dropped on her knees. Her body is releasing lot's of sweat.
"Your highness," I walked towards him, ignoring Aqwin's sword who in the end, decided to keep it away.
"Do you need me for something?" In the middle of a training, no one should interfere unless the one you're sparring with admits defeat. That is the rule of this academy and so was our island's. It might be too cruel, but with the state of every kingdom in this land we are stepping in, being strong is a must in order to protect yourself.
"The king wants to meet you," without waiting for my response, he turned around. He must be pissed off because I did not give him any respect earlier.
Aqwin followed him along with the boy who was with him yesterday while I contemplated if I would follow them to see the king with this burned dress or change first.
"Your highness, let me take Lady Asteria to change first, I also need to dress her wounds. It's not suitable to let her meet the king in this state." Lady Sier stepped out and spoke. I mentally agreed with her words. My dress is not really suitable and even more so, I even forgot that I still have wounds because of that fire.
The prince who was walking ahead stopped and turned to observe me. Upon noticing that what Ms. Rep said was true, he nodded and gave us permission to clean up.
Lady Sier held my hand and led me towards the little house. We entered the room where I had changed earlier.
"Change to your uniform," she gave me a new set and gave me privacy to change.
After a while, she knocked and asked me if I was done. When she received an affirmative reply, she entered the room with a small wooden box. A medical kit.
She poured a cool ointment on burns on both of my hands and feet then bandaged it softly with a white cloth to keep the medicine in place. The burns in my hair were cut with a small scissor. She said it's to maintain my beauty.
"Do you know why you're being called to the palace?" Lady Sier suddenly asked.
I shook my head in response. I was there yesterday but the king has not told me a thing.
"You're here for the alliance, right?" I was not shocked when she found that out. I'm guessing every noble knows or every student in the academy knows. This news won't be passed through the mouths of the kingdom's people to avoid them from panicking.
"The union of you and Aqwin… there's a rumor that in order to receive your people's loyalty. The marriage will be held in a week." My sharp mind just experienced dumbfoundedness. I've always known that I won't be able to escape from this marriage, I just did not expect it to be too soon.
