Chapter 4 Dockside Escape

Jace grabbed my wrist and snatched the card away from me. "Bianca, are you trying to run again?" "My parents are here. I need to find them!" Jace looked at me as though I had said something ridiculous. "Your phone is with me. How exactly are you supposed to contact them?" "I am not lying to you. They might already be at the port. I have to see them." "You just had a miscarriage. Do you have a death wish? Come back with me." The moment he finished speaking, he grabbed my arm and started dragging me back. But all I could hear in my mind was Luna's voice. "If you do not go now, you may never see them alive again." "Let go of me!" I struggled violently. His brows slowly tightened, but his grip never loosened. "Have you caused enough trouble yet? With your condition, are you really trying to destroy your own body?" Just then, hurried footsteps suddenly sounded behind us. "Bianca, why did you come out? Your body has not recovered yet. Stop making trouble. Why would your parents even be here?" My entire body froze as I looked up at Luna. "Enough," Jace said coldly. "Take her back." A crew member suddenly came running over in panic. "Captain! There is a middle-aged couple causing trouble near the outer cargo entrance. They said they are looking for someone and started arguing with one of the forklift drivers!" My mind went numb. A middle-aged couple had come, and they were searching for someone. "Where are they? Where are they now?" "At Dock Two outside. The supply trucks and loading vehicles are all blocked there..." Before he could even finish speaking, I had already bolted forward like a madwoman. "Bianca!" Jace's expression changed immediately as he chased after me. I could no longer think about anything else. Dragging my still-recovering body forward, I stumbled desperately toward the outer deck. The sea wind crashed against me, carrying the thick scent of salt and rust into my throat. My lower abdomen throbbed painfully with every step, but I did not dare stop. If it really was my parents, I hadn't even told them I was safe all these years. I couldn't afford to miss them again. The footsteps behind me grew closer and closer until Jace finally caught up and grabbed my arm. "Have you lost your mind? That area is the loading zone!" "Let go of me! I need to find them!" "Bianca!" His voice darkened. "If you go over there now, you will only make things worse!" "They are my parents! What if it really is them?" Jace froze slightly after being shouted at like that. I violently shook him off and ran forward again. Standing near the gangway, I spotted two hunched figures outside the crowd. Dock workers were shoving them backward roughly. I immediately rushed toward them. But at that exact moment, a fully loaded trailer suddenly skidded. Its wheels slipped sharply across the wet ground and charged straight toward the gangway! "Move!" Someone screamed the warning at the top of their lungs. My face went pale instantly. But my body felt nailed to the spot. I could not move at all. Jace's pupils shrank violently as he rushed toward me almost on instinct. But in that same second, Luna suddenly let out a scream and twisted her ankle. "Jace! Save me!" He turned around almost instinctively. Without even a second of hesitation, he ran straight toward Luna. I stood frozen in place, watching his figure grow farther and farther away from me. The snapped cable had already whipped toward me. The trailer was still hurtling out of control. The gangway shook violently beneath my feet. Through the chaos and screaming crowd, I looked at Jace one last time. He was holding Luna tightly in his arms, lowering his head to check whether she was hurt. From beginning to end, he never remembered me. The next second, I grabbed the railing and jumped. "Bianca!" A hoarse scream suddenly exploded behind me. Then the freezing seawater crashed over my head and swallowed me whole.
