Deloris was the first person Charlie saw when he entered the hall. She looked at him and turned away; she had taken up a seat between Little Red Riding Hood and her father and was pretending to be engrossed in the fox’s tail.
The postman made a go on face, which Charlie ignored, standing by the sound desk which two schoolgirls sat behind. They had been there all morning arranging the sound effect equipment, which was now lined up like soldiers—according to the script. With their glockenspiel beaters poised, the girls nodded a hello. Charlie returned the hello with a smile, then headed backstage.
