REVEREND DAN STEERED his Mini Cooper into Fair Enough Farm at six-thirty Saturday morning. An eager Janey Musgrove occupied the seat beside him. She emerged from the car carrying a video camera and a large notebook.
As Janey arranged her gear, another rig pulled in, driven by Bing Sensabaugh with Marie Hardesty riding shotgun. Their two horses snuggled cozily in the trailer.
Dan caught sight of Rhetta standing on the front porch, Abel on guard beside her. “We should first make our manners to the hostess,” he said, and they walked across the lawn to greet Rhetta.
“Good morning, Mrs. McKendrick,” he called out cheerfully. “Lovely to see you on this fine morning.”
Rhetta did not look pleased to see him. “If you’re here for donations, Preacher, you’re wasting your time.”
