A MUCH DIFFERENT Dan Davenport appeared before the St. Cuthbert congregants on this Sunday morning. He strode forward, head erect and shoulders square, then sprang up the steps to the pulpit. His eyes, aglow with righteous fervor, passed over the small audience, holding each person’s gaze for a brief moment.
Everyone sat in silence, astonished by the mysterious change in the usually melancholy minister.
“My text this morning is taken from the Old Testament, the Book of Deuteronomy, chapter thirteen, verses one through three.” His voice was strong and clear, the suggestion of an English accent gone.
