Chapter 78
“TODAY BRINGS US to the tenth and final Commandment,” Reverend Dan announced. “And it brings me to a confession. I have been guilty of violating this commandment.” He looked down at the text before him. His bushy, upturned eyebrows shielded much of his face. “‘You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.’”
Dan slowly raised his head and with misty eyes looked out upon the packed pews of Saint Cuthbert’s-in-the-Woods. His gaze held for several seconds on Janey Musgrove, seated with the Sensabaugh family.
