Chapter 46
SATURDAY WAS THE first Juniors Day of the season. The hunters met at Kimber Farm. Two-dozen young charges prepared for the morning’s sport as Cecelia Broadhurst and Dorcas Stanhope fluttered among them, assuring all was well. The kids ranged from those just past toddler age, mounted on tiny ponies, to mid-teenagers on recently raced Thoroughbreds. Most every child there could ride circles around any adult present.
Ryman hustled his choir members into their formation and then addressed the crowd. “I’d like to introduce our first Venatican choir, who’ve been working hard to sing to the glory of our good Saint Hubert and the wonderful sport he provides for us. If you know the words or brought your hymnals, er, song sheets, please sing along with us.”
