Unfortunate Condition
Ava could not believe what she was seeing, and she stood there stunned as she tried to take everything in. The man she believed she knew as Asher was kissing Freya, her step-sister. The treachery was painful and Ava found herself with so many questions running through her mind. Was this a nightmare from which she would soon awaken?
At that moment, two large men moved to her and grabbed her shoulders to prevent her from climbing the stairs. Asher then pushed Freya away from him and looked down at Ava, a wicked smile on his lips.
“Oh, you’re here too, Ava,” he said with a sneer. ”I thought you would not come.
Ava cried as she gazed at Asher, her heart broken into pieces. “Asher, what are you doing? I gave up everything to be your Luna, to be the mate you wanted,” she cried, “why did you choose my step-sister?”
Asher’s reply was a well-thought-out punch. “Why would I want a witch as my mate? Do you want me to be a laughing-stock of the pack, with everyone saying my Luna is stronger than me? No, you don’t even deserve the Luna title. You’re just a weak omega who can’t even communicate with her wolf if her life depended on it.”
Ava was hurt by his words, she felt rejected and unwanted by him. She fell, her legs giving way from under her, and she clutched her chest in pain. ‘I wanted you to think that I loved you so that everything I had planned would come through,’ Asher said coldly, ‘I disown you, Ava Stone.’
Ava’s world collapsed on her. “Why are you doing this to me?” she cried out, her face wet with tears. ‘I tried to prove to you that I loved you, Asher and this is how you pay me back. I even relinquished my high priestess status as you wanted me to.’
Asher laughed, and his laughter was not a warm, pleasant sound. “You were an i***t to do that. You really thought I would ever look at you? Your father and I planned it all. Your mother humiliated my father, and that was enough reason to despise you and erase the Capris family from existence.”
Ava’s voice was shaking as she tried to argue, “I knew he despised me... but you were more than this, Asher. You know how much I adore you.”
Asher’s answer was a slap on her face and the slap brought Ava to her knees. “Ava, do you think I give a damn? I hate you, I hate you, and let me tell you again, I hate the very sight of you,” he growled, his eyes flashing dangerously. “Because of your stupid clan, my mother is dead, and I will never forgive you for that.”
Ava let out a scream that broke the glass of the nearby buildings, her voice ringing in the ears. “I didn’t do it! Do not put all the blame on my clan for everything that happened because of your misfortune; my clan has only been trying to make peace with the werewolf clan, but all of you are just a bunch of insecure creatures.”
Asher lifted his hand and Ava could feel the slap on her face again. ‘I will get rid of you and your whole clan after,’ he said, spitting the words out with hatred.
Ava fell back, her life destroyed, and she understood that the man she loved was a stranger, a killer who had played with her. The betrayal that he had done to her would always haunt her, a symbol of love that was reduced to ashes.
Ava looked at the corner of the hall and saw Freya who was smirking with pride, her father and Melissa standing beside her. Asher’s words made Ava feel a shiver run down her spine. “And speaking about your whole clan, they should all be dead by now.” He said, his eyes filled with hatred.
Ava opened her eyes wide in shock as she looked at him. “You being here enabled me to make my move and kill them because they are all unhappy that you are giving the position to your cousin. They do not care about their safety anymore, and I love that.”
It took Ava some time to digest what Asher had said to her and the implications of it all. She had a premonition that something was wrong but she could not really pinpoint what was going on. ‘What do you mean by... by my clan?’ she asked in a trembling voice.
Asher looked rather serious and Ava could tell that something was very wrong. She quickly took her gown and started to flee as fast as she could from the hall, her heart was beating so fast. As she stepped out of the hall, she began to have a negative feeling towards what Asher had said.
Ava realized that the Capris clan was the last witch coven and if something happened to them, then the line of the witch would cease to exist. She used her magic to increase her speed and she was muttering prayers under her breath that nothing would happen to them. However, as soon as she arrived to the other side of the river that led to the clan, a strong gust of wind passed her and she tripped.
‘No,’ she cried as she ran into the village, and the only sound that could be heard was her own voice. She ran towards the main palace, her heart beating with a lot of fear. The first thing that she saw was blood and she screamed again. ‘No,’ she cried, running from one room to another, but all she could see was the corpses.
No, everyone couldn’t be dead, could they? There has to be a survivor but, alas, Ava was unable to find anyone in the village. The only person she could feel life from was Raven, and she quickly went to her room.
Raven was surrounded by her own blood and she appeared to have crawled there. ”Raven... “ Ava choked on her tears. ”What happened?” “Please don’t leave me.”
Raven pushed a necklace into Ava’s hands, her eyes were weak, but she had a determined look on her face. “Asher... betrayal... second chance...“ she gasped.
Ava was very bewildered and frightened. “What!!?” she said, taking Raven’s hand gently in her own and placing her head on the couch. She attempted to pass on the energy to Raven, but this did not seem to work. “No, no, don’t struggle, let me share with you some of my energy. ” she said crying.
Raven tried to speak, but her voice was barely audible; she only uttered, “Go… don’t… you… can still…”
Ava was desperate. “Raven, please don’t do this, who did this to you? I am sorry, I will go back in time and change everything. I will let Asher go.”
Raven was speaking in a very low tone. “Shut up. . . Sacrifice. . . second chance. . . “
Ava stared at Raven with terror as she gradually shut her eyes, gasping for breath. “Necklace…“ were the only words she could utter before her hands went lifeless.
Ava cried out, saying, “No. This couldn’t be happening. ” She was holding Raven’s lifeless body and crying her heart out.
