Chapter 26.

"Cognito." Sergio. Sergio was on his way to his office when he had looked at his cellphone and was notified that the car that he had gotten for Aisha was parked outside of his office. What could she possibly want there? Especially knowing that I’m not in yet at this hour. What she didn’t know was that, he had cleverly placed a tracker in the car that he had offered her. Gotcha. He had a feeling that she would ramage through his office because by now, she must have gotten the photos that he and his assistant had sent her. He smirked as he thought of how smoothly their plans were going. She was indeed being mislead. He had cameras placed in and out of his office, just for her. They were hidden in places that nobody could even imagine. Aisha is actually much dumber than she thinks. I’ve known this woman for so many years and yet, she couldn’t even pick up that I’ve been keeping an eye on her ever since I found out that she was not who she pretended to be. What a shame. A woman of God who turns out not to be one, should be stoned to death in my opinion. All he had been doing all those years, was gathering enough evidence against her to lock her away for eternity, including every time he pretended to be an accomplice to her crimes. What Aisha had forgotten was that, he was a mayor. And not a corrupt one for that fact. He had just gotten carried away with her charm and her beauty, as any man would. His voice bellowed with laughter as he recalled that he had believed that he was ’in love’. And he had been prepared to do anything for her, until she had asked him to kill her own husband. That was when it dawned on him that Aisha was actually really evil, and that could never rub off on him. If she was prepared to kill her husband at any cost, just because of another man, what makes me so sure that she won’t do the same thing to me once she’s tired of me? That thought had been his saving grace. Or else he’d be dead. There comes a time when "pushing" one’s ideas that could save our world becomes morally the right thing to do. Flipping out his cellular device, he made a phonecall. Whatever she was going to find in his office, was planted there for her to find anyways. "Yeah, make sure you keep an eye on the intruder. And also, make sure she finds what she’s suppose to." He wished that things were different, as his mind drifted to memories in Nigeria. I loved the quiet days, the ones of still telephones and silent clocks. I loved the random sounds that came sailing in the breeze; the birdsong came so sweetly, almost tangible, as if it were softly spun sugar or palm wine. I would sit there upon the clouds that were my dreams until, as the ones above are so prone to do, they condensed to form the random ideas that quench my mind. It was on those quiet days that ideas came as natural things do - from the sunshine, rain and earth. Aisha thought she was smart. But he was going to prove to her that he was even smarter than she was. This was only the beginning. Aisha. Aisha fished her long, black-painted fingers into the cupboards underneath Sergio’s desktop. She had been allowed to go into his office because Sergio’s orders had been that she be allowed to do as she pleased, seeing that they were "lovers." She had zero guilt for the deeds that she had committed and was about to commit. Aisha thought that it was her Christian duty to eliminate every one of her enemies because she had believed that the Bible had given her the power to do so. She was determined to find a reason to etch Sergio 50 feet into the ground. Her skin crawled every time she thought that he might just have nothing to do with any of it. But that was what she was there to find out. As she opened the last drawer, there sat something shiny, with a white envelope underneath it. She held her breath and wondered why Sergio had a woman’s ring in his drawer. It must be his wive’s. She wanted to close the drawer and carry on elsewhere but her spirit wanted to know what was in the envelope. She reached for it and found that it wasn’t sealed yet. She peeked through it and found a letter. The letter made out that Sergio was planning on divorcing his wife, and making her his wife. Stapled to the letter, were their divorce papers. She gasped and held her hand up to her mouth. The letter also stated that he was too afraid to ask her so he hoped she’d find the ring and help herself to it, in that case, he’d know that she had accepted his proposal. Aisha was too stupid to realise that the whole thing was just too convenient, as she hurriedly slipped the ring onto her finger. Perfect. She smiled widely and totally erased her mission from her mind. That was the point. To set her back on her plans. She quickly got up and attempted to text Sergio about her findings. "There’s no ways that he would be the one who was keeping tabs on me. I mean he’s finally divorcing that tart and wants to make me his wife! I think that’s why he was so nervous. And that statement he made was probably superficial. Either way, if he’s trying anything funny, I’d be two steps ahead of him. But I can’t pass up on this opportunity. It’s a damn goldmine." She raised her hand and and admired the big rock that was on her finger as she texted with her free hand. Came down to your office to bring you some lunch. Got bored sitting around and started looking through your drawers. Found the ring. I say yes. Meet me at my hotel room to celebrate. Xoxo, Aisha. She happily got up and dusted her dress. Grabbing her bag, she turned on her heel and made her way out of Sergio’s office, already forgetting the purpose of the intrusion. What a productive day. Isis. There were children playing in the front yard of the cathedral, screams and laughter could be heard from a distance. A woman stood on the edge of the front yard and called them all into the church. A little girl walked up to the woman and placed her hand into the woman’s own. They walked into the church together. Isis’ flashback was interrupted by Alejandro’s beckoning. She stared at the church as they parked right in front of it. "I know this place. I’ve been here before right? And I think I’ve just gotten an image of who my mother was. It’s all coming back." She looked over at Alejandro, who was holding his breath. "What?", she asked him, as she scrunched up her face. He shook his head and switched off the engine. "I’m just happy that you’ll finally remember me, in no time." he said, smiling thinly and kissing her forehead. "Let me come around and open the door for you." She got out of the car and mouthed a ’thank you’. Just as she was approaching the church’s staircase, someone came up to her. "Isis? Oh my God, what happened to you? We haven’t seen you ever since your mother’s death. Where have you been?" She tried to open her mouth but she didn’t even know what to say. She was about to say something when Alejandro came up from behind her and cleared his throat. "Do you nosy Christians not have anything better to do? Isis was in grieving. She’s back now and better than ever. Now if you’ll excuse us, we’re going into the church to do what real Christians are suppose to do. Thank you." And with that, Alejandro led Isis up the stairs. She looked back and saw the woman standing in the same place, with her mouth hanging open. "Christians are hypocritical Isis. If they were really worried about you, they would have visited or called. I’ve never seen any of them at your house every time I was there. Anyways, let’s sit right here." She felt like he probably knew what he was talking about so why question him. They slid into a bench in the back of the congregation. Isis felt at home. She felt a familiarity with the church. She smiled as she realized that the song they were singing, was a song that she knew very well. Her memory was refreshing itself, slowly but surely. She let go, as she opened her mouth to sing, surprising Alejandro. She smiled at him, and he smiled back. He had brought her back home. And that was enough to prove to her that he was indeed meant to be a part of her life.
