THE PROFESSOR

1714 Words
Thirteen years quickly passes by, back at the Owrex university, the now honorable professor sat outside a well decorated bench alone reading the daily news through an advanced finger pinpointed hologram device with a cup of coffee in his other hand.     The university been in existence for almost three decades now, it celebrated advanced researches in art, culture and history,  the science and tech division was so advanced that people from around the world come to partake and contribute in the institutions wonders, the academic body was strong and the students were at their best at all times. Been rich, successful and accomplished now the professor felt contented with his life, his two daughters all grown now, one from his late wife and one from a another dimensional world all students in their final years of the institution, Hareena was his oldest, she held an uncanny resemblance to his late wife Moira, she was tall, beautiful, strong and very dedicated to her studies. She always loved her father until the day thirteen years ago he brought a girl to their house claiming to be his daughter from another woman who had died, she felt her father had betrayed the name of their late mother and lessened her involvement with him ever since. While Jasma who still held on to her last name as Jasma Neroy Martin was a different person altogether, she never felt sick because she wasn’t human and she possessed a powerful IQ that matched that of the world’s brilliant minds, she was strong, athletic and quite friendly to everyone even to the surprise of the professor now her father. Professor Martin sat staring far into a tree shade staring unflinchingly at Jasma, she was now twenty two and looking very beautiful, he made sure she wasn’t bothered by boys which didn’t really matter because she seemed to be able to handle and take good care of herself, sitting with two female friends smiling and laughing at a funny video they were watching with their hologram devices.       The professor’s eyes brightened with signs of tears as his gaze went up across a built wall which served as a resting place for students beside where Jasma sat, he notices another interesting student of his. Anthony Luther, an intelligent brave young man who was also considered a noble kind hearted student which he even won an award for. He admired Tony because he had saved his daughter Hareena’s life once from a speeding car that rushed passed her outside the universities gate, since then the professor felt indebted to him. Anthony who preferred to be called Tony is a half white half black individual sharing two races from south Wales and western Nigeria in Africa. But he was an orphan; his parents had died from a car accident when he was just six years old, ever since he had struggled to get to where he was especially from orphanage to foster homes. Now he was on scholarship and almost through with his education. Ever since that day, his daughter Hareena had secret admirations towards Tony but couldn’t tell him and he on the other hand didn’t even notice. The professor grins and thought and turns to a voice beside him which almost startles. “Good morning father, may I join you?” the voice greeted, turning up quickly he sees its his daughter, he smiles and moves his work bag for her to sit staring at her with a smile he replies to her gesturing with his hand “Hareena please sit,” he gestures to her to sit down “It’s a beautiful morning” said his daughter staring at Jasma and Tony from across the field. “Yes, yes… beautiful indeed” the professor utters he too still staring at Jasma “A woman’s extreme beauties can be hypnotic sometimes father” exclaimed Hareena staring at her half-sister with pretentious smile as she waves to her who waves back at her. “Excuse me!” he exclaims sipping his coffee turning to face his daughter now with full attention. “You won’t tell me what really happened between you and her mother, even after all these years” Hareena continued with a half frown. “For the millionth time Hareena, it’s better for all of us that we let this stay in the past” her father almost snaps quickly almost with a low tired voice. “Whatever you say father” gently Hareena carries her bag to leave, he holds on to her arm staring at her apologetically to sit down. “Look Hareena, am sorry okay but now isn’t the right time to let you in to your sister’s story” “You mean my half-sister” she tightens her jaw with pressed anger “even a simple DNA test could mean something, Jasma doesn’t even exist in any data base father,” she pressed on. “Hareena, you need to try and understand that right now it’s not the proper moment or time to explain all these things to you” “Then when is?” she asks with a disappointed stare at her father. “I promise to let you into everything by the end of the week but until then please trust me on this” he pleads with his daughter, she thinks about it for a moment smiling mildly accepting what her father said with a slight nod. She turns her gaze towards Tony who was just stepping down from the wall and waved at her as he left the garden field, the professor notices the stare and chuckles amusedly, she quickly turns to him wondering why he did that. “What is it?” she asks curiously “The way you look at him, you like him?” asked her father “Not really, his a little not my type” Hareena replies turning to watch him disappear into the faculty buildings “I did not know you had a type, but his not so bad, his a great kid, good enough for you”, her father says trying to convince her, she shakes her head disapprovingly and stands up as Jasma walked up to them “Hello father” she greeted while he nodded watching her study his daughter Hareena who was trying not to frown. “I have class; maybe I will see you later for lunch?” Hareena says to her father leaving the field waving at Jasma who helped her father stand up to walk to his office saying as she watched her sister walk away with some colleagues. “She will always hate me?” “I doubt that, she hates the fact that we are keeping you a secret to her and it upsets her” the professor says as he carries his coat and walks into the building heading to the office with Jasma.          In his office, professor Martin locks the door and sits facing the book shelves, the office was a bit slightly dim with light and two large windows and well-furnished furniture’s and a burning fire place furnace in the middle, it had a glass screened computer at the left corner and all over it was surrounded with beautiful decorated wall shelves filled with hundreds of books and another side wall holding all of his many years of accomplishments and awards. Jasma helps him hang his dark coat on the coat stand. Placing his hand on a button on the book shelves a small safe opens revealing the tablet of Tezra, he sighed wearily and faces Jasma who calmly sits down watching her father study the written engraved markings on the tablet. “Can’t believe we haven’t found the person to link the Tezra to father” she utters feeling a bit disappointed and tired at the thought of it “we will Jasma, remember I made a promise to you and we will find the right person, so far all the people who come into this office don’t show any sign and we need to do this quietly and subtly” the professor says feeling pity for his adopted daughter.   They suddenly hear a knock at the door; the professor opens it calmly unlocking the knob as Tony walks in with his boyish innocent smile, “Excuse me sir” he says staring at Jasma who seemed unflinchingly unpleased by his presence”. “Yes Anthony, how may I help you?” “I wanted to see if you could give me some insight into a project am working on?” Tony asks sitting down, professor Martin stands to pick up a file from another shelf not realizing Tony was staring at the tablet of Tezra, and curiously he asks Jasma “Wow, this looks amazing, do you know what it is?” “Yeah it’s a tablet from the tombs of none of your business” she snaps with a blazing glare at Tony, the professor sits down holding a blue file in his hand and gives Jasma a warning glance to be nice to Tony. “Let me see the file Tony” says the professor as he collects the paper and reads the proposal.  Jasma removes her phone and starts to chat to her friends pretending not to look at Tony who was already not pleased at her also. Suddenly, the tablet illuminates an emerald colored light emitting from it, Jasma’s eyes widens in amazement and shock as also the professor, Tony staggers from the sit pointing to the tablet with fear asking “What the hell is this?” “It seems its choosing you” said the professor turning to face Tony in an anxious stare, Jasma tries to touch the tablet quickly, it raises up midair and disintegrates into colorful lights and gets absorbed into Toni’s body, he jerks to the ground shivering and shaking as the lights emitting from the Tezra surrounds his body and causes him to tremble.
