33 Nathan peered through the small window in the door of the cell that held Neil Stopper. His suspect was sitting on the bed, which wasn’t really anything more than a large shelf with a thin mattress, his back against the wall, and his gaze fixed on the wall opposite. If he was aware that he was being scrutinised, he gave no sign of it. Bare feet rested on the cool floor, where he hadn’t bothered to put on socks, and his trainers were taken before he was put in the cell, but he showed no more awareness of or concern over that than he did about any other aspect of his situation. Finished with his examination, Nathan closed the flap and left the cell area.
