26 Neil Stopper groaned loudly as he threw back the duvet and struggled out of bed. He felt absolutely rotten, which was hardly a surprise given the amount he had drunk and smoked over the last day and a half, not that he could remember exact quantities, a lot was as close to a guess as he could get. With a second, heavy groan he got to his feet. His footsteps slow, and sounding to his ears like an elephant walking across the skin of a drum, which made him grimace with each step, he made his way along the passage to the bathroom, where he got into the shower. The first blast of water was ice-cold and made him shiver and yell out in surprise. He quickly turned the dial to get the hot water flowing and warm himself.
