CHAPTER 40Abby sat on the bench and leaned back, feeling cold stone through her dress. On the bench beside her Jasper's face looked peaceful. She stroked his cheek. He wore a tux, with a perfect black bow tie, of course. At the moment there was no one else in the world except them. She had left the dressing room to get some fresh air, and her path led her here, to this small courtyard garden, surrounded by the stone arches of the church walls. At the center of the garden water bubbled up in a fountain through a shell held by a cherub. The air was cool but not cold, but the sky was cloudy and threatening rain.
