The Magnetic Pull.

Alvia's POV. You know that situation where you don't know how to react to a particular occurrence so you just stand in one place and stare dumbly at it? That defines my situation right now. I blink my eyes a couple times to be sure that what I'm seeing is not just a pigment of my imagination and that the boy that has managed to steal my control over my thoughts for the past three hours is indeed standing just a few feet away from me, leaning against my door. The key to my door that is currently in my hand falls to the floor and the screech of the metal hitting the gravel is what brings me back to my senses. I bend lowly to pick it up, my eyes not leaving the stranger on my door and he equally watches me with the same attentive eyes. I stand straight and hang my bag on my shoulder, walking towards my door. He stares intently at me as I take slow steps towards him, his eyes not even blinking, let alone leaving my approaching figure. "How may I help you?" I ask him when I am close enough, my voice betraying my anxiety by cracking in the end. "I was beginning to think you weren't coming home today" He says impassively, the casual tone of his voice catching me off guard. He is talking to me like he knows me already. "Why?" "I have been waiting quite a while for you" He says. "Why would you wait for me?" I ask him again, trying to stop my eyes from glancing at his plump lips as they move. It is like I have to stop myself from just running into his arms. I have to stop myself from so many things with him, someone I have known for less than a day. There is something so strong between us and I wonder if it is just me who feels this way. If that is the case then that makes this even more awkward. "Because you are who I have been looking for" He says. I furrow my brows, making it obvious through my face that I don't understand what he just said. What does that mean? "How so?" "You'll see soon." I shove my key into the hole of the door and turn it, opening the door with ease and stepping inside. I turn to look at him, my breath hitching in my throat the moment our eyes meet. It is always like that. It is like something punches my throat everytime I look at him, I cannot explain it. "Do you want to come in?" I find myself asking him, no form of reluctancy in my voice. I should stay away from this boy. I should shut my door and lock it and hide under my couch from him because he screams danger and enigma, but I cannot. I would be torturing myself if I try to stay away from him. I know this because I have never experienced a pull like this before. "You feel it too, don't you?" He asks, staring at me with that same attentive look. His question catches me off guard because I didn't think he would feel what I am feeling. In fact, I was beginning to blame it on the fact that I have been single for too long. But his question has just confirmed that it is not the case. This is way stronger. Slowly, I give him a barely noticeable nod, my hand gripping the door knob tighter. He heaves a deep breath when he sees me nod and takes a step towards me. He stops when he is only a few inches away, in the doorway of my home while I am inside, holding the door open. "I can't be here right now" he says "But I'll come see you again when I can" His hands come up in front of him, as if to touch my face but he stops it before it could reach me, bringing it back down to his side and clenching it in a fist. A disappointed pout finds its way to my lips but before I can say anything, he turns around and starts to walk away. "Don't go" The words leave my mouth before I can stop them, but what shocks me more is the fact that I am not even embarrassed at how desperate I sound. What is happening to me? He turns to look at me and I wonder if it is just my imagination, but his eyes are no longer green. They are now a light brown and all shades of green are gone from them. As we hold each other's gaze, I feel a sudden warmth envelope me, like an invisible embrace. He stares at me for a longer moment before he finally speaks. "I will come back" With that, he turn around and walks away, vanishing behind one of the corners of my street. I shut the door and turn to lean my back against it, my hands flying to my chest as I catch my breath. Since when did I become so attracted to someone of the opposite s*x like this? This has to have a suitable explanation because it seems supernatural. I gasp to myself the moment I realize that I forgot to ask the stranger his name. I was too entranced that I forgot to properly introduce myself. For some weird reason though, I feel like he already knows me. He might not even know my name just like I don't know his, but there is a level of familiarity looming around us. 'Because you are who I have been looking for'. His words come back to me and I tilt my head in confusion. What does he mean by that? I have so many questions to ask but the problem is that I can't focus enough to ask them in his presence. It is like he somehow manipulates my thoughts, such that the only thing I can think about in that moment is him. Just him. Not my curiosity, or the awkwardness of our encounter. Just him. I sigh and lean off the wall, trudging slowly to my bed and plopping down on it. Thinking about this whole situation has physically exhausted me, it is like I have no other strength in me, but at the same time, I have no other space in my mind to think of something else. A conundrum, but a one-sided one, if you will. I decide to take a shower to clear my head, and right after, I will force myself to sleep, although I know very well what I will see when I close my eyes, or rather who I will see when I do so. I strip off my clothes and step into the shower and after about fifteen minutes of scrubbing my body mindlessly with my eyes fixed on the wall, I rinse myself and step out. I dry myself with a towel and wear clean clothes, I am in the process of drying my hair when I hear a knock on my door. I throw the hairdryer elsewhere, rushing to the door as fast as I can in hopes of seeing a certain multi-colored eyed boy. I open it and huff out a breath when I see Miley on the other side, trying to hold up all the bags we bought at once. I leave the door open and walk back inside, disappointment swarming my chest. Miley huff and kicks the door open wider with her foot, waddling into the house with the bags. "Are you not even going to help me?" She yells "Remember I paid for all this s**t" Reluctantly, I turn around and grab two of the bags from her, although I'm sure it doesn't make much difference. She huffs and moves to the bed, dumping all the bags on it without grace. She turns to glare at me with her hands on her waist, watching me as I move to my couch and take a seat. "What is with this glum mood of yours? It has been less than an hour since we last saw and you have already managed to get yourself angry" She says with a confused frown. "I'm not angry" I mutter, my eyes staring into space "I'm just exhausted" "Already?" She asks, then shakes her head. "Whatever. What do you have here? I'm thirsty" "I think there should be a soda in the fridge" I point over my shoulder. She goes to get the soda and comes to seat beside me on the couch. I feel her eyes on me as she sips on her soda, the slurping sound making me look at her. She gives me a long look, then closes the lid of the soda bottle with a satisfied hum. "You know how we promised not to keep things from each other?" She says and I roll my eyes. She always uses this card when she senses that I am keeping things from her. "Yes. Unless it is super private" I add and she hums. "I'm guessing this one is supper private then" I nod and stand up, moving into the toilet to relieve myself and by the time I get back, Miley's eyes are glued to her phone screen, a mixture of voices and eerie tunes coming from the speaker. "What are you watching?" I take a seat beside her. She doesn't bother looking up at me as she speaks. "Just something that caught my attention" "Well, what is it?" I press on and she looks up at me with vengeful look. "Oh so you wanna know? It is super private" She spits, turning the screen away from my view. "How petty" I huff and turn away from her. "Am I no longer allowed to keep secrets?" "Oh you are. But not from me" "How about this..." I turn back to her "You tell me yours now, and I tell you mine when I'm a hundred percent sure of it" She creases her brows in confusion. "What the hell do you need to be sure of on your first day at Mayfair, your favorite city?" I don't respond and she moves closer. "I'll tell you mine" She says "There is this conspiracy theory I have been obsessed with for the past three months" I furrow my brows at her words. "Conspiracy theory? On what?" "The existence if werewolves" "That can't be true" "But it is. Some researchers caught sight of them in the woods, here in Mayfair" She says. "Really?" I gasp, getting interested "What else do you know on them?" "Not much" She shrugs "But I heard they even come to town in search of their 'mates'?" She does air quotes around the word 'mates'. "What are those?" "People that are destined to be with them" she says nonchalantly "Like their match in life. I heard even humans can be their mates" I don't say anything but she sees the confusion on my face and with a sigh, she elaborates further. "How it works is that you begin to feel a pull towards someone. It is uncontrollable. You find yourself wanting to be in their arms all the time, thinking about them all the time" A frown rises to my face. For some weird reason, her explanation sounds oddly familiar. It is like the perfect description of my situation right now. I try not to show my confusion too much for Miley not to suspect, but I'm honestly too shaken to give a damn. I hope this isn't what I'm thinking it is. "Did you read that from somewhere?" I ask her and she nods, handing her phone to me and I read what is boldly written on the screen. 'BOND BETWEEN WEREWOLVES AND HUMANS'. No no no no.
