The parents stayed for a week and then took a plane to Spain to enjoy good food. I watched Easton control the situation, he didn’t give his little brother the opportunity to ruin their parent’s stay. Alex was fuming, I could see it in his eyes whenever we met. Easton also made sure I was never alone with Alex. If he was there he kept me close to him, always glaring at his brother in warning. Alex always held his tongue. It was clear to me that despite Alex wanting to fight his brother on this, he didn't dare to. He was afraid of Easton. I did notice something strange about Easton, lately, he was pulled away by one of his men in black to quietly discuss things. The harsh look in his eyes worried me. Something was going on in the dark and it made Easton restless. Currently, I was seated on the living room couch in the famous sunroom as I called it while Easton joined me. He was sipping coffee and staring at something on his laptop screen.
“We never had a moment like this.”
He kept staring at his screen but I had his attention, “Like what?”
I clutched my cup of tea in both hands, “I don’t know, a peaceful moment. Maybe?”
A subtle smile spread across his face, “You enjoy it, Miss Miller?”
I tried to hide my smile by sipping my tea. My eyes taking him in from his perfectly styled hair to his expensive Italian leather shoes. When he took a seat beside me on the couch he had tossed his jacket carelessly aside. Took his vest off, tossed it aside to and opened a few buttons to his shirt to get more comfortable. He looked at ease around me, so relaxed. I had to pray to God for control over my desires because running my hands along that body I knew he hid underneath his clothes was all I could think about.
"Quite a bit," I whispered.
A soft chuckle left his lips, “The little things that make you happy.”
We talked quietly, it really set the mood for the night. Easton finished his coffee, leaned forward and placed the empty cup on the table. He settled back on the couch, reading through whatever document had his attention.
“Something is going on.”
I knew I shouldn't bother him when he was working but he sought out my company, he had a home office but instead of working there he took a seat beside me in the sunroom. He should have known I wouldn't sit quietly beside him. That wasn't me.
“What do you mean?” He couldn’t deny it, I knew what I saw.
I narrowed my eyes at him, "I've seen you talking to your men in black. I've seen the way you secretly look at each other and have a quiet conversation with your eyes. Your behavior is off, something is going on which got you worried."
“Very observant.” It sounded like he praised me, “There might be something going on, but you don’t need to worry about it. All you need to do is follow orders so we can keep you safe.”
He did keep me safe, he did keep his promise. I got used to this life, living in the mansion and having all these people around. Easton made sure to provide me with everything I needed. He took care of me and had my back when I had no one else to turn to. He became important to me despite the lines between us being so blurry.
"I can't help but worry," I admitted to him.
He glanced up from his laptop, his eyes staring into mine, “I told you there is no need for you to worry.”
My look didn’t waver as I answered him without hesitation, “And I’m telling you that it’s impossible for me not to. This feeling won’t disappear just because you demand it.”
He set his laptop aside, closing the screen, “What do I need to do to make you feel more comfortable?” He asked, his tone serious.
It made me want to laugh. I placed my half-empty cup of tea on the table as well and shifted in my seat to fully look at him.
“Guarantee your safety.”
It was barely there but surprise flashed through his eyes, his eyes then slowly softened and without warning he leaned forward, pushing me down on the couch. We had been here before, different couch different scenario but still the same. Easton hovered over me, arms caging me in between him and the couch as he moved forward. His lips pressed against mine, the kiss soft and gentle at first. He was teasing me, tempting me. A gasp left my lips when one of his hands trailed down my stomach and up my shirt. His touch hot, his fingers softly tickling my heated skin. He deepened the kiss, my moans swallowed by him as he grabbed onto my breast. I wrapped my legs around his waist, mewing as he moved his hips against mine. This was definitely not the same as our little makeout session in my small living room. We had to be careful of his wounds then. Things weren’t as heated as they were now. Everything around me blurred to the background and all I could do was feel. I was getting lost in this man when he suddenly pulled away. His hands leaving me while he sat up and stared at something or rather someone who cleared their throat to announce their presence. I recognized it. My cheeks heating up while I showed the man my back, I couldn’t face Jake. I needed time to get over him seeing me in that position.
“We have a mole.”
I felt the shift in Easton as he got to his feet, his face harsh and his voice tight, “What?”
“We caught her.” Jake informed him, “She is talking.”
Easton grabbed his jacket, his vest forgotten while he pulled himself together. His harsh eyes landed on me, “Go to your room.” He ordered, his eyes narrowing at me in a warning, “Don’t fight me on this.”
“A guard will stay outside your door.” Jake let me know in a gentle voice.
I got to my feet and finally looked at the man who spoke to me as if I was a little kid who tried to hide from the world because they were scared.
"The woman, she was here for me," I concluded.
I noticed how Easton and Jake shared a look. I was on the right track, but Easton would probably tell me not to worry. The man who loving held me in his arms a second ago was gone. Now he became the man he was at night. The man I referred to as ‘The Godfather’. Now I wanted to laugh at it as well, wiping away tears just as Serena had.
“Just go to your room.” Easton told me, “We got this handled.”
He didn't wait for me to move, he nodded at the man who was supposed to guard my room. The man looked expectantly at me so I started moving. It was best to take orders because it would keep me safe. I wouldn't think about what that woman would do to me once she did get me alone. Jake mentioned the woman was talking so she'd tell Easton about her intentions. I didn't want to think about what Easton would do to her. He pointed a gun at me before, he didn't pull the trigger then. Something told me this woman wouldn't have the same fate as me.
