The three of us march slowly up the mountain trail. More than once, we almost slip off. Wind whips through our clothes and tears at our skin. Still, we’re somehow able to reach the summit.
At last, Sash, Anya, and I step inside the Gray Woman’s cave. It’s a small space. A spray of snow covers the stone floor. By the far wall, there sits a small pedestal that holds the carving of a woman.
“What do we do now?” whispers Anya.
“Remember the spell I bartered off that Norse hedge witch?” I ask.
“Da,” says Sash at the same time Anya says, “Nyet.”
