Chapter 41Christmas morning found Rachael unsure how to approach Matthew following his strange behavior the night before. She felt timid, convinced she must have done something wrong. Now he would probably avoid her and she'd end up feeling out of place at his parents' home. She'd have to leave. She dreaded facing him. She woke the same time as Mona and surprised her by being there. After showers, they talked over tea and sat in front of the windows watching the city lights shut off below as daylight crept in. Mona had a way of making her feel close.
