Chapter 21As they approached Rio Vista, Mona and Rachael took turns looking through binoculars. Diehard wind surfers with multi-colored sails and boards glided effortlessly on the season's last remaining wind currents across the river below the east levee. Soon, there would be no Delta breeze at all, with more waves from boats than wind. Inescapable sweltering stillness of summer heat would permeate the region.
After docking, Cameron said, “Mona and I are going to visit some friends at The Submerged over there on Main. Wanna come?”
“No thanks,” Matthew said. “We're headed to Boaters Only on Montezuma Street to do some shopping.”
Once there, to Rachael's amazement, she found that her former high school friend, Celine, with whom she failed to keep in touch, owned the dry goods store.
