Chapter 8: Opened Eyes

571 Words
Sound & sensation return to me.  The air around me was cool and the ground beneath my clothes was furry, it was a carpeted floor and I felt a figure loom over me. I felt a fine layer of dust on the floor as well, some of it powdered my chin and lips. "Welcome back to the world of the living!" Fels voice rang cacophonous in my ears. "This is what, I think your umpteenth cycle...God knows to be honest..." She chuckles.  "Feel crappy, don't you?" I instantly remember the insanity she had enacted upon me earlier. The knife...the blood...the madness in her eyes...And now she speaks like nothing had happened. Fury fills my heart. I reached forward, grabbed her ankle, and pulled her towards me. The woman fell to the ground with a yelp and landed hard on her back. She swore out loud as I pulled her slim, effectively pulling her towards me. I was still having difficulties standing up, my legs still felt dead but my arms were alive and well. I see Fels touch her head in pain as I essentially crawled over her, belly to belly, reaching for her slim neck. She needed to pay. "Jonathan what the f-", her words were cut short. I had already wrapped my hands around her slender throat.  I squeezed and she began to grab at my hands. I didn't let go. I didn't relent. I held on. Tight. She began to move her legs, trying to nudge me off, but I didn't budge. I had straddled her as she did to me earlier. I was no longer powerless. I had her life in my hands... She crawled at my grip, lightly scratching it with nails that could barely cut my flesh. Her eyes began to look bloodshot and never closed, they were open, open to see my anger towards her. I wasn't thinking straight. I didn't care if Fels could really help me with this insanity. At that moment, in that vise grip around her trachea...She was nothing but the target of vengeance. There was a darkness within me, a new one at that...A brand new blackness that gnawed at my heart and stabbed at my brain. Or perhaps this was darkness lying latent within me...and something had to bring it out into the light. I needed to do this. I had to end her life. I didn't care about any ramifications. I didn't care at all. Nothing mattered....only revenge. Fels stopped moving and I loosened my grip. A purplish handmark was imprinted on the skin of her neck and her eyes were forever open, staring towards the ceiling. She was dead. I realized that I was breathing heavily. My hands shook. Tears formed in my eyes and regret immediately filled my heart. What did I do? Oh dear god, what did I just do...? Tears fills my eyes.  I lightly sob. I blink. ...and Fels' corpse vanishes. She was gone.  I was on the floor, no corpse beneath me, only a fine layer of gray dust. What just happened?  My hands still shook. I knew that I had killed her...But where did she go? There was a sound coming from the living room, the sound of shattering glass and a woman's voice swearing.  The sound of footsteps began to go in my direction... I slowly get to my feet, lean on a wall, and await the source of the sound coming to me. A short-haired woman emerged from the hall. She had an annoyed look on her face with a coating of dust was on her clothing. Fels had come back from the dead...! "Jonathan!" She yells out. "What the hell was that for?!"
