Chapter 2: Reunion After Five Years

1237 Words
The woman looked at Carson with a fearful expression in her eyes. She swallowed and said firmly, "Fine, you wait for me." After speaking, she stormed out. Carson didn't bother about this matter at all. His mind was solely focused on Quinn. Just then, a nurse came in to change Quinn's medicine and noticed two unfamiliar people in the ward. She asked cautiously, "Who are you?" "Hello, I am Quinn's father. How is my child?" Carson hurriedly approached. "You are the child's father?" Upon hearing Carson's words, the nurse clearly didn't believe him. "What's wrong?" "I have to say, you both are heartless as parents. Your child has been in the hospital for a month, and the mother has appeared only twice. And now you, as the father, are just showing up. You are really something." "It has been a month?" Carson was shocked. "Yes, it has indeed been a month. I'm wondering if you are really the child's father. How can you not know anything?" "I'm sorry, I just returned from overseas and came straight to the hospital. I really don't know anything. Can you tell me what happened?" The nurse looked at Carson for a while and he didn't seem like he was lying, so she slowly said, "The child has been lying in a regular ward outside for a month. I wanted to transfer her to intensive care, but the child's mother disagreed. She said she didn't have money and asked if she could pay later. Isn't it ridiculous?" "Where is the child's mother now?" "Aren't you her husband? Don't you know?" The nurse was surprised. "I'm sorry, nurse. I just returned to the country and I don't know a lot of things." "You are really something. The child's mother seems to be a bar girl. She only came twice this month." "What?" Carson was shocked to hear this. Alena turned out to be that kind of person? Their child was in the hospital, and she was fooling around outside? "Nurse, how is Quinn's condition?" Putting aside other thoughts in his mind, Quinn's condition was the most important now. "She has severe disabilities. She had a cerebral hemorrhage and almost didn't make it. Although she has survived, the situation is not optimistic. There are still blood clots in her brain that cannot be cleared out. She is too young for major surgery. Luckily, a kind-hearted person paid for her transfer to intensive care, which raised the level of medication and treatment." As the nurse spoke, she had already changed Quinn's IV drip. Before leaving, she pursed her lips and admonished, "Now that you're back, please accompany her well. What she needs now is companionship, you understand?" "I understand, thank you." After the nurse left, Carson sat on a chair by the bed, his eyes full of heartache as he looked at his daughter on the bed. "Uncle, are you really my father?" Little Quinn looked curiously at the unfamiliar man in front of her. "Yes, Quinn, I am your father." "But mom said that Quinn doesn't have a father, that her father died a long time ago." "Does Quinn always listen to mommy?" "Of course, Quinn loves mommy very much." She nodded. "But your mommy hasn't come to see you. She's so bad, and you still love her?" "Don't speak ill of mommy. You're a bad uncle. Quinn doesn't want to see you!" When she heard Carson speak ill of her mother, Quinn got angry. She was really angry. She even started coughing incessantly. Startled, Carson hurriedly comforted her, "Okay, I won't say anything." After changing the medicine, it didn't take long for the medicine to take effect and Quinn slowly fell asleep. "Mr. Cabrera, rest assured, Quinn's matter is my responsibility. I will hire the best doctors for her. She will be fine." Seeing the child fall asleep, Santiago said cautiously. "You don't have to trouble yourself, I will take care of it." When he returned, he had already contacted the top doctors internationally. They should arrive in a few days. "Is there anything else, Mr. Cabrera?" "Thank you for everything. If I need anything, I will contact you. Also, you don't have to call me Mr. Cabrera, I'm not used to it. Just call me Carson." "How could I?" Santiago knew well about this person's background. Calling him by his name, even if you gave him a hundred times more courage, he wouldn't dare. "If Mr. Cabrera doesn't like it, then I'll call you boss." "Forget it, call me whatever you want." While the two were talking, a woman hurriedly walked in from outside. The woman was wearing a purple dress, with silver earrings adorning her ears, combining fashion with a touch of glamour. Although she had more makeup on her face, Carson could still recognize her from her facial features. She was his ex-wife, Alena, whom he had once obtained a marriage certificate with. Five years ago, Alena was the young lady of the Powell family, an exquisite and outstanding lady. She used to dress gracefully and had a remarkable temperament. And now? Seeing the dressed-up Alena, Carson couldn't help but feel indignant, stopping the woman who walked in. "Who are you?" Being stopped by Carson, Alena couldn't help but stop in her tracks and ask. "Who am I? Alena, take a good look at who I am." Carson said coldly. Their daughter was lying in the hospital, and she was outside having a good time. The current woman was completely different from the impression she left five years ago. This made Carson very uncomfortable. As Alena looked at Carson, she tried to search her memory. Finally, the dusty memories surged up from the depths of her mind. "Carson?" "You can still recognize me, not bad." "How could I not recognize you?" There was surprise in the woman's eyes, and deep down, there seemed to be a hint of joy flickering."Why did you leave your daughter alone in the hospital?" Carson questioned, his face aggressive. Alena was somewhat surprised and shocked, as if she never expected him to question her. In an instant, her face darkened. Then she slapped Carson in the face. Tears filled her red eyes, and she couldn't help but sob with grievances, "You're questioning me?" "What right do you have to question me?" "It's been five years, you left with just a few words, heartlessly leaving me and Quinn." "You left for five years, and I felt like a widow all this time." "Do you know how we, mother and daughter, lived these past five years?" "You ask why I left my daughter alone in the hospital, it's because I had no money. The surgery cost tens of thousands, and I had no money. I had to go make money!" In the end, tears gushed out like a bursting dam. Alena crouched on the ground with her legs curled up, burying her face and crying bitterly. Time flew by in the blink of an eye. Five years passed hastily, all because Alena was completely different from five years ago, and he resented her. At this moment, he finally realized that he had misunderstood her. These past five years may have flown by for him, but for a woman, they were agonizing. "I'm sorry, Alena." Looking at the weeping woman, Carson felt both heartache and guilt, and he lifted her up from the ground without considering anything else.
