Theodore dismissed the maid who came to undress me and a bottle of the bubbly drink was sent to us as a congratulations on our wedding. He poured me a glass of whiskey which I eagerly drank and held the glass out for more. I walked towards Theodore’s bedroom through the library placed the glass of water on the bedside table and removed my necklace. I looked at myself in the mirror and removed the winter jasmine from my hair. I laid it next to my necklace and watched Theodore approach in my reflection. He began to fumble at the tiny buttons on my dress. I laughed softly, Sinead had fastened them with a button fastener; we hadn’t thought this through. In an instant the buttons were flying across the room. ‘I want to see my wife!’ Theodore growled into my neck as I tried to soften the look
