Chapter 4

Rayne Whitestripe My hotel wasn't far, and with me able to shadow step, I was able to easily stay hidden within the city, I was grumpy but still didn't want to be seen by a human. It was just easier to walk in my cat form. I was more comfortable in fur. I had clothes hidden around my hotel so I could change and not walk into the lobby naked. I made it back to my hotel in about fifteenish minutes. It was across town, and I had no car. I left it at H.Q., when I traveled like this I have rentals; too bad I was just too lazy to get it before I went back to the hotel. I couldn't understand why someone would think that I would be able to write two reports regarding the attacked women on almost no sleep in many, many days. Who the hell could do that? If you can, I will give you props! I can't! "You're right! I get it! It all makes sense. You're the perfect person, so right, so wrong. Let's all live in your imaginary life." I heard this song playing in my head for about half an hour. It just seemed to keep going and going, then a little bleep noise would sound after that, and then the song again. I was curled up in bed, sleeping. I couldn't figure out why I had this damn song stuck in my head. It just wouldn't stop playing. It wasn't even the full lyrics of the song, which was the bad part, oh wait. That’s my ringer for my cell phone. "Hello?" I picked up my hand and asked into my thumb. Realizing that I was not holding onto my phone, I sleepily grabbed it off of the nightstand next to me. "What the hell do you want?" I didn't know who it was, but if they were calling at this hour in the morning, it better be good, and they better be expecting an attitude. "Where the hell are you? I have been ringing your hotel for the past two hours and your cell for the past three! You should be here in this damn office not prancing around like you don't have any responsibility!" I heard the voice through the receiver. "What the hell are you talking about, Gryatt?" "Dumb ass, it’s nine!" Gryatt stated. Eunice Gryatt was one of the elders for Shadow, He was the one who I reported to during my case here. I glanced at the phone time. I grumbled, less than 4 hours of sleep. “Great.,” I said and jumped out of bed. "Why are you sleeping? You should be out in the field doing your damn job!" He hissed into the receiver. "Well, it wouldn't be so f*****g bad if not for the fact that I have been living on about five f*****g hours of sleep the last.. oh, I don't know four days!" I spat back. I did NOT like Gryatt. He was an asshole. He cared only about himself, and his "favorites" as I called them. He had some Hunters in Shadow that I swear he changed himself or got them the job there. He had to be related to them somehow. The reason I say that is because they literally could do no wrong. They screwed up case files all the time and he had to fix it, but they heard nothing about it. However, you sleep because you’ve been running around too many days without sleep, then he gets upset. I couldn't help it! Literally I hadn't slept in days! I hated it when he was giving me my cases. He was always an ass about it, thankfully I’ve only had about three cases from him that I actually had to work under him. Every time I did though, he was awful. "Well maybe if you did your job and caught the criminal changing the humans, you would be able to sleep, instead you’re wasting time and money prancing around and not doing anything of real value, I swear Rayne get your ass over here before you don't have a job left." He threatened. "Well, that would do us both a favor since you wouldn't have to see me or deal with me and I wouldn't have to look at your f*****g ugly leatherback ass again." I held back what I really wanted to say. No. He wouldn't fire me. He needed me too much, but that never stopped him from trying to threaten my job every chance he got. "Don't you dare young lady talk to an elder like that! If I wanted to I could have you stripped of everything that you have and send you to South America." He was getting annoyed... Good. I was doing what I set out to accomplish. "Good, why don't you try to explain to the other elders why they are missing their best were? Better yet, why don't you go explain to them that you have had me running on absolutely no sleep. I am not going to put up with this inhumane treatment, just because we're not regulated by the government, doesn't mean that I am not a living being. I need sleep, so does your ugly ass. You don't see me trying to keep you up for days on a case!" I snarled into the receiver; he was starting to royally piss me off. He thinks he can get away with treating people like s**t, he still has to remember I haven't given my report in yet, and he needs that to get the body properly taken care of and I could drag my feet about coming into the office. "Rayne, you are one of the most expendable detectives that we have, don't let Beth, Elaina or Talician tell you differently. They just tell you that you are doing a good job just so you continue to do that job. We are all sick of your attitude. You don't realize how close you are coming to getting your ass deported. Now get your lazy hide down here, give us your report and apologize in person for being disrespectful to an elder." "Deport me! Your sorry organization won’t let me go any other way. I would benefit from that more than you ever would losing me! At least I wouldn't have to deal with your fat ugly ass anymore, oh, by the way, apologize?! Never in a million years would I apologize to a slug like you." I hung up on him. This was one of the few times I really hated my job.
