Chapter 5

1772 Words
Emily POV I slowly climb out of the truck. I see standing in front of the stairs, two young men. One is very tall with black hair and piercing green eyes. These eyes seem familiar. The other young man is not quite as tall as the other man, ut has curly brown hair that is messy with soft brown eyes. He seems very friendly compared to the other guy. He just seems angry. I wonder what is making him so upset. That must be Damien seeing how he has the temper. The other must be Marx, I think that's what Drake said his name was. He is the beta if I am remembering correctly seeing as I was not listening as closely as I should have been. Drake goes and hugs the black-haired guy. Yep, I was right. That must be Damien. They don't look that much alike. Damien must get his looks from his mom. "Emily, this is my son Damien. And this young fellow over here is his beta, Marx. I am sure they are both excited to get to know you. As I said you can go to either of them for anything you need. Right, boys?" he states with an ornery glint in his eyes. Damien rolls his eyes at this statement but Marx laughs lightly and replies, "Of course Alpha, anything you need Emily, you can bother me anytime!" "Yeah, sure dad," Damien states as he tilts his head in my direction. "It's nice to meet you both and I look forward to getting to spend time with you guys and get to know you better. I am going to apologize in advance, I do not know much about how packs work and how you guys live so just bear with me while I get the hang of things." I politely respond. Damien has an interesting look on his face as I state this. I wonder what he thinks of me. Luna is very excited to meet other wolves and she is jumping around and yipping in my head. Woah, a bit too excited for my currently exhausted state. Drake then introduces Lily to the boys and instructs us to go inside that dinner was ready. I follow everyone through the packhouse in awe of its size. It is huge! I have never seen a house like this. Everything is immaculately clean and in its own place. I have a feeling I am going to get lost in this place. We soon come up in the dining room and everyone takes a seat. I sit beside Lily so I am at least close to her which comforts me a bit. I am not sure why I am feeling so anxious all of a sudden. I am getting this feeling that I cannot identify and all I want to do is get away from all these new wolves. Luna speaks up and states, "Mate is here. I am so excited for you to meet them. I want to go play. We haven't shifted in forever! It is nice to see all these other wolves. We are now where we belong!" "What do you mean our mate is here!?," I ask in a panic. "how do you know who it is? and why can't I know, have I already met them? We cant shift here. Not yet at least until we know we are safe." I reply. Luna just hums and retreats back not answering me. She can be such a brat sometimes. As I am done arguing, I see that Damien is giving me a strange look. Oh, no is all I can think of. Does he think I'm a lunatic!? I probably look crazy here having this inner conversation with my stubborn wolf. As if everyone knew how uncomfortable I am, dinner is brought out to the table so we can now eat. They bring out so much food I have no idea where to even start! I go with some simple choices- chicken, mashed potatoes, some rolls, and a nice plate of salad. I am not terribly hungry so why not just have something lighter. I know it may not sound light, but for wolves, it is a very light meal since we burn calories so fast and our metabolism is much faster than a human. I quickly finish my food and ask if it is okay to go to my room since I am exhausted. It seems that everyone else is basically finished as well with their meals. Drake says that I am more than welcome to go to my room and that he and Lily were going to head onto their house. Lily stands and gives me a hug and wishes me goodnight and that she will see me tomorrow. Drake wishes me goodnight as well and asks Damien to show me to my room since we are right across the hall from each other. "Yeah, dad. I guess I can do that for you. Emily right?" He asks. "Yes," I lightly tilt my head and look at the ground, trying not to make eye contact with him. "Ok, goodnight dad, Lily. Let's go, Emily," he replies. I follow him out of the dining room and up the stairs. Damien POV I keep having this weird feeling about her. Something seems so familiar but I cannot place it. I am watching her sitting across from me at the dinner table. She seems to be having some kind of internal conflict going on with her wolf. I wonder what it could be. I catch myself staring and Emily's eyes go wide as she catches me. I want to mentally facepalm myself. How could I let her catch me? Now she won't look at me. Maybe she thinks something is wrong with me. Who knows. I fill my plate with food and try to just focus on eating. I have been trying to figure out her scent but it is almost non-existent. I mind link Marx to see if he thinks the same thing. He replies, "I can't smell her at all over all of this food. I can smell Lily's scent mixed with your father's but not Emily's. Come to think of it, I don't think I have been able to get her scent at all since she arrived. That's kind of weird don't you think? I remember your dad saying she will be turning 18 in a couple days so her scent should be very strong by now." "Yeah, I can get a very small whiff of scent from her but can't figure out for the life of me what it is. It isn't a normal werewolf scent. There is something off about it. She seems nice though. It might be easier to be nice to her than I thought," I mind link back to Marx. "OOOOOH, do we have a crush on little miss step-sister already?" Marx blasts through the mind link. I internally cringe when he says this. I immediately link back, "ABSOLUTELY NOT! How could you think that? What is wrong with you Marx, she is my step-sister!" "That doesn't mean anything Damien. She is obviously very beautiful I mean c'mon how could you not crush on her? Just look at her! I might just go after her myself." "What is wrong with you Marx? You cannot go after her! What about Grace? I thought you felt that she was your mate? You wouldn't do that to her, right? And if you do, I will kill you myself! She is off-limits, do you understand me?" I roar back through our link. Marx visibly stands down. "Yes, alpha no need to get your panties in a twist. I was only joking. I guess you do already have a thing for your new sister!" he replies. "Just shut your mouth, Marx. I am done talking about this. God, is dinner done with already? I need to shift and go run off some of this, or maybe just shower and go to bed. Shadow is driving me crazy today. I am exhausted," I tell Marx. "Yeah, man. It has been a long day. Maybe you just need some rest and then Shadow will let up on you a bit." Marx replies. Dad then interrupts our mind link and says to show Emily to her room. I state, "Yeah, dad. I guess I can do that for you. Emily right?" "Yes," Emily states while trying not to make eye contact with me. Why won't she look at me, I wonder. "Ok, goodnight dad, Lily. Let's go, Emily," I reply. I start to walk out of the dining room and up the stairs to the 3rd floor. Emily is following behind me. I decide to be friendly and talk to her. "So, Emily?" I ask 'Ummm, yeah?" She replies innocently. I guess I haven't taken the time to really look at her. She has the most amazing blue eyes I have ever seen and long curly blond hair. I see that she is wearing a fancy dress. She probably wore that for the wedding and hasn't changed yet. I stop where I am at on the stairs and take a minute to take in her features and her expression. She is looking at me with a questioning look. "My room is just across the hall from you, I will show you in just a sec....." I awkwardly pause. Why am I being so nice? I feel soft. This isn't me. Why do I feel protective towards her? "Um, okay. I guess let's keep going then?" She asks me with a soft smile on her face. "Oh, yeah." I stupidly reply. I forgot what we were doing. I mentally facepalm myself as we continue up the stairs. We made it to the 3rd floor. We are walking down the hall and I stop at my door and say, "this is my room. I will leave the door unlocked for you if you need anything in the night. Don't be afraid to come to ask me or wake me up for anything. It really is no problem, okay?" "Oh, okay. That is very nice of you. Thank you for being so kind to me." She replies with a big smile on her face. Seeing this made me smile and feel happy. Wait, what is going on. I am turning to mush already because of this girl. "Here is your room. Just right across from me, see?" I show her her bedroom door and open it for her. She slowly walks in and I see her face light up.
