Chapter ThreeThere were three piles of dirt deep in the heart of the woods, covered by scattered leaves and twigs. Something within the third pile of dirt began to move. It wasn’t long before fingers emerged from out of the ground. One hand came into view, and then another. Shortly thereafter, a man rose out of the ground, wide eyed and gasping for air like he’d come up from out of water. The dirt slid off of him easily, but a lot of it clung to him. He shook the dirt from off of him and stood erect, brushing the remnants off his clothing. He looked to the other two piles of dirt, seeing that they were shallow graves. “Ma, LaRon!” It dawned on Levon that his mother and younger brother were probably buried in the graves. He dropped down to his knees and used his hands to claw out the dirt,
