Chapter One: Doctor Dearest

2936 Words
It was nine am when she decided to finally get ready for her appointment. Mavis kept on having to persuade herself to not just call it quits and cancel. Her nerves made her anxiously pace across the floor back and forth and twiddle her thumbs. It was the kind of feeling that at in the back of her mind and made her stomach ache. When she sat down her legs thumping up and down rhythmically with little tremors a bad habit she had formed over the years. Grumbling to herself, she finally decided on getting it over with and going; putting on her comfy white bra brimmed with little lace and a small bow in the front. It wasn't a frilly bra and it wasn't a push up either. Though it did keep everything covered and tucked up tight. Having a bit of a cute feminine manner so she didn't look too much like a ragamuffin. Alongside it she wore matching white underwear that also had a small bow in the rimmed lace front. Over her under garments she slipped on a white billowy button up blouse and black leggings. As a final touch she grabbed her knitted knee length cardigan and small brown bag carting her keys phone and other important accessories. She gently combed through her messy red hair eventually putting it in a bun the silk white ribbon going perfectly with the rest of her. Closing the door, it didn't take her long to hop in the car and eventually make her way to saint bells hospital. However, when she found it, she gasped. It was ginormous. It was one of the biggest hospital she had ever seen no the biggest building she had ever seen and that said a lot as she was in a city. Saint Bell was the type of medical care only the richest would receive. Fuck... How was her insurance going to cover this? She should've known there was reason that it was the first medical center to pop up on the internet. Gazing up at it the colossal building seemed to reach the clouds and spread out what seemed to be at least two football fields. It had to be one of the biggest hospitals in the world. Not only being huge it was also top notch. It's thousands upon thousands of pane glass windows were all smudge free and the outside was very lavishly decorated. They had trees, rose bushes, and flora of all kinds around the parking lot and entrance. Little did she know the metropolitan city she had moved into had also been a hot spot for business and medical care of all kinds. The city of Florian was practically the center of modern medicine. Re-googling it on her phone Mavis soon found exactly what she was looking for much to her horror. Saint Bell was quite revered in the medical community; no doubt the most expensive too. People traveled from all over the world to this multi-billionaire hospital. It was practically the trump tower of medicine. Run by the head of the medical board. Sixty year old Chairman Wyllt who also seemed to be a renowned business man explored into the money of medicine and opened many clinics. His most successful venture yet being saint Bell. Noticing how she was starting to go down a loop hole of gossip and celebrity's on the internet she soon shut her phone off. Stepping out of her vehicle, her small black flats glided across the ground as she made her way to the grand entrance. Inside, she was amazed. The giant columns stood high above her and the milky white marble floor sparkled so much she could see her reflection in it. They had cute yet classy art on the walls and flowers hanging from the ceiling around the lights and entrances. It was very welcoming to say the least. At the center of the giant room sat the front desk and reception. It was giant and many secretary's sat in front of the massive amount of high tech and computers they had gathered around them. All of them wearing matching black uniforms being neatly groomed; hair slicked back. Approaching the desk, she was quickly greeted by another woman. "Hello Miss, how can I help you?" She kindly smiled at Mavis with a light cheery tone causing her to blush. "O-Oh... I-I'm Mavis Finley for the nine thirty a-appointment with Dr. Silva." She tucked a loose strand of strawberry hair behind her as the woman lightly smiled at the shy girl. "Okay then Miss Finley read these papers over and sign them in the waiting area. A nurse will come by soon and call you." She handed her the clipboard with her medical information and pointed to the waiting area that was only a few meters away. Mavis followed the direction in which she pointed and soon sank into the soft leather seat as she reviewed the standard pages giving her information, cell number and whatnot as the large tv hung up on the walls played commercials in front of her. Next to her there was a large portrait hanging on the wall. It looked hand painted. An old man stood in a fancy suit with graying hair and a large smile. His eyes seemed to be deep and dark like they were staring right into your soul. The pane that held it was a deep high quality dark redwood. At the bottom it held a golden placket that said Mr. Wyllt. He was the owner of the building so of course he would have his own portrait. She glanced back to the clip board she held. The questions were typical and boring. Full name; Mavis E. Finley Previous medical history; none. Medications; melatonin gummies. Previous doctors; Mrs. Smith at Fairview Clinic in Mayfield, Georgia. Gender; naked Mole Rat ...She was having a little too much fun filling in these morose questions. Birthday; 10/8/2050 Email; none. Phone number; 728-4690 Insurance; Galactic inc. Any additional information? None. Did they really need all this information? Probably not. She was only coming here once. After that she just would just find a cute little inexpensive clinic to get checkups and regular flu shots. Her eyes glanced over the pages once more. There was one last question on the bottom that she almost missed. Address; 4209 Monroe street complex room eight. She finished filling in. Was this her actual address? No. Call her paranoid but she was just going to put in some random one not like they would really need her address anyway. "Miss Finley?" A nurse in black scrubs quickly peeked her head out the door calling her name. What was with all the black? Standing up from the plush seat she greeted the nurse who took the papers from her and directed her to follow. First they measured her height and then they weighed her on a scale standard procedure of course. Not long after Mavis found herself in a room waiting for the doctor to come in. She already hated coming to the doctor but even more so when they were gonna have to prod at her lady bits. Though on the bright side Dr. Silva was a woman that she made sure of. So at least she was a bit more comforted by that fact. She sat on a patted doctor's office exam room bench swinging her legs black and forth waiting. In the center of the room, there was another bench but it was a much different one. It was more chair like and had metal stirrups made for certain more difficult inspections. Mavis was nervous with anticipation and it only got worse as she heard footsteps coming down the hall coming closer and closer to the door in front of her. The anxiety sat on her like a pillow over her mouth and nose. Enough air gets by it, allowing her body to keep functioning, but it's crippling all the same. Mavis' legs went weak, her stomach lurched, her palms became sweaty, and her heart started to ache. Finally, when the doorknob turned the door squeaked, open she was surprised to see it wasn't Dr. Silva. Part of her breathed a silent sigh of relief, and another part of her was curious about the strange man. When they finally turned around clip board in hand she was a bit shocked if not horrified. He was handsome from the depth of his eyes to the deathly expressions of his face. His jet black hair went down to his shoulders and was rather fluffy a sharp contrast to all his coworkers who had their hair slicked or gelled back. Akin to his hair his eyes were also bottomless pits of black. Much like a marble. She couldn't discern the pupil from the iris it was so dark. They seemed to be deep and never ending. Unnaturally colors of the room reflected off of them and Mavis could see her own reflection in them. It was almost like they sparkled. The man was tall and slim yet had nice muscle tone. His limbs were long and he had a sharp angular face. His nose and chin were of the same sharpness. The man couldn't have been that much older than her maybe by a few years if that and yet all she could do was look up at him with curiously shining big doe eyes like getting caught in headlights. The man had dark features that of which almost frightened her when she first saw him. He was practically death personified; hopefully, his personality wasn't the same way. She didn't think her heart could handle being frightened to death by this ice cold man. Thankfully she had just glanced at him and looked away not having stared at him too long. "Umm... W-When's Doctor Silva coming in?" She questioned as he gave her a soft, amused smile, and shuts the door behind him finally looking at her for the first time. For the most part he seemed nice although he had a strange aura. A sort of disturbing power over her and she couldn't pinpoint why. He had this look that would send shivers down your spine and chill you to the bone. A type of look that said he could kill you without remorse or hesitation if you became a problem. An audible click of the door sounded as she watched as his eyes held an unreadable emotion making her stomach do flips. He looked down at her for quite along time and it kind of made her nervous. Why was he just staring at her? Just say something?! With a small smile he walked over to a cabinet where there was the sharp snap of rubber gloves as he slipped them on. She was worried but then he finally spoke. "Oh yes, I almost forgot Dr. Silva is sick and wasn't able to come in today so as her temporary supervisor and a surgeon I decided to help out and step in for some of her patients today since one of my many specialties is fertility." He smiled at her softly. With words sounding so sweet, so gentle, she couldn't help but relax. She was glad that he wasn't as scary as he looked. It was a good thing outward appearances didn't dictate personality. "O-Oh... O-Okay..." What he said made sense but once her brain computed what that meant she started screaming internally. This man was the one who was going to look at her v****a?! Why her? Of all people why did she have the shittiest of luck? She can't even remember the last time she trimmed! What if she looked like Sasquatch down there?! "So... Then what should I call you... Doctor?" "Hmm?" He looked back at her relatively surprised. "You... Don't know who I am?" He looked at her a bit flustered finally some of his true emotions slipping out under the mask. "N-No? Should I?" She asked worriedly as he paused, eyes shining as he looked at her in a second of silence. He soon looked down at his clip board which held the papers she had looked over in the lobby a small smile coming over his lips as he looked down at her answers from the questions his eyes shining a bit with mirth and fondness. "Hmm... I can see your not from the city... Based on your former doctor, it looks like you're quite far from home. How long have you been in the city?" "Uh- Just a little over a year." It seemed they were stuck with awkward small talk for now. "So... Then doctor?-" "Ollivander. Doctor Ollivander." "Well Doctor Olli-" She started. "No no, my dear. Just Oliver for you." He gave her a breathtaking smile as an embarrassed blush rose up her cheeks. He turned back around to the cabinets and pulled out a thin blue hospital gown assumingely for her to change into as he handed it her. "This is your first time at Saint Bell yes?" He asked, and she nodded back in reply. "Well then with the first appointment you also get a full checkup." Her eyes widened a little. "Will my insurance even cover that?" She asked him nervously. A full body examination had to be expensive. "No worries dearie you'll be fine you're in good hands." Looking down at the gown expectingly she stood still nervously. Wasn't he going to leave? So she could change in privacy? Looking back at her with a smile she became even more confused. "U-Umm... Aren't you going to... Leave?... So I can-you know-change?" He turned back around, and his tall form looked down at her with much wiser older eyes. "Don't worry dear I'm not looking. Just leave your bra on and set the rest of your clothes on the table." Shyly she turned around her back to him and took off her cardigan soon after slowly unbuttoning her blouse leaving her in just her pants. Self consciously she pulled the hospital gown over the rest of her to hide her body more eventually talking off her pants and underwear neatly folding them on the table. Thankfully he didn't get a glance her more private areas yet due to her shy way of undressing. She had felt eyes on her, but she just passed it off as anxiety. She could trust Dr. Ollivander; he was so sweet to her. First she sat at the large table laying straight down to let the first part of the exam take place. Since this was a full exam, she assumed he was saving the worst for last; the pap smear. She felt like he must have examined her about a five times, his large rough hands going over every inch of her body time and time again. She just waited patiently staring up at the ceiling waiting for it to be over. Thinking about it, she could almost feel his hands running slowly along her skin. Down and up and down again, her thighs and hips and stomach, goosebumps and pink blushes blooming across her soft skin. What was he looking for? She wasn't sure. She didn't ask. After all, it wasn't her who was meant to ask the questions. As his cool hands slipped all over her body, Doctor Ollivander attempted to distract her with too many questions. Some were about her body and health. "What's your diet?" "How about this?" "What about exercise?" "Does this hurt?" "Did you bring your complete medical history?" But others seemed more...Personal. Where Mavis went, who she was were with, what her job was, and more. She often wondered why he was asking her this, what purpose it had but... She didn't bother asking the doctor. She simply answered his questions one by one. "I don't really have any family or friends nearby." "I don't think so..." "No." "Yes." "No." "I work at the historical society." It went on and on. Finally finishing with the regular part of the exam, he led her to the chair with stirrups thankfully not having her legs spread wide open quite yet. "Alright just a few more questions before we start." "Any history of HIV, HPV, or STDs of any kind?" "No." "Any previous or ongoing drug use?" "No." "Ever been pregnant, in labor, or had a miscarriage?" "No." "Do you smoke?" She sighed and answered again. "No." "When was your last mensuration?" "Two weeks ago." His questions were unrelenting. Just when he paused and she thought he was done he started up again. "Are you sexually active?" To this her eyes widened, and her cheeks flushed a bright red at this he smiled lightly knowing it was an awkward question. "No, I'm not...sexually active." "Then have your ever been sexually active?" "No." At this his black eyes widened a little. His dark eyes glinted, bits of light glimmering in the inky blackness. She honestly felt a little more oblivious and comfortable than she should've been. Most people would've ran for the hills by now but as intelligent as Mavis was she was much more naive and trusting. How could such a nice man do anything bad? She was an optimist and chose to always see the good in people and this was almost another reason why her parents were so worried when she told them she was moving to the city all on her own. Although to her credit she wasn't completely instinct less. She couldn't quite place the feeling she was getting off him but, she just felt like there was some sort of problem, something lurking beneath the cold surface. Something dark and strange and...No. No. No. She was just...Nervous. "You've... Never had i*********e?" "N-No?" She practically squeaked. "Not married? No boyfriend?" She turned red. "Nope." Was it bad that she was out of college and never even went on a date? Maybe. "Hmm... Haven't seen that at this age in awhile." He mumbled. To Be Continued...
