I stood in the doorway, staring at the mountain of expensive boxes blocking my hallway. The black card in my hand felt like it was burning my skin. I will wait for you both. "Rose?" Nixie’s nervous voice came from behind me. I turned my head. Nixie stood in the entryway, still holding the vase. Her eyes widened as she looked past my shoulder at all the gifts in the hallway. "What is all this?" Nixie whispered, lowering the vase. "Did he send this?" Before I could answer, I heard little feet pattering quickly across the floor. "Mama, who is at the door?" Lorna asked, walking up beside Nixie. She had a smudge of chocolate ice cream on her chin. Lorna peeked around my legs and looked into the hallway. Her eyes went wide that she dropped her plastic spoon. "Whoa," Lorna breathed out.
