Chapter 3: Rise of the downfall

Ethan was just full of unanswered questions, like what will he find? Is it good, is it bad? He couldn't wait to find out. They have been trying to bypass that door ever since they heard about it. it was the one door no one was allowed in, It was that protected. What Ethan did not know was what awaited him, would change everything he knew about the world he lived in. The lab was big with complex design, just imaging the Brookhaven lab but with more of a shiny white design and blue neon light tubes, He got to one of the emergency exits and started making his way through the building. He went to a very specific vent which was very easy to open since it was the vent Ethan would normally go through. Whenever Ethan got into the lab while professor Smite was working they would examine certain areas for quick and easy maneuvering. Once inside he avoided the normal laser security system. He's memorized it to the point where it is a simple video game combo you insert when you're doing quick time events in video games, to which he played a lot of them. He also studies and memories patterns for fun.

Sheldon was making sure all cameras were deactivated and alarms were offline. Ethan snuck around the hallway. Making a right turn and heading down the stairs, making his way to the impossible room in the basement.

"Alright, I'm in, read me the code."

Sheldon began reading the code As Ethan put it in. It was a very scrambled code. the padlock would change its digits with every input. It was a pretty cool lock design. The door eventually opened and a second door was revealed. It was a simple keycard lock. he opens up the hatch and starts moving around wires and hacking into the mainframe mission impossible style. It took a while but he manages to bypass it with Sheldon's unique hacking skills through a Bluetooth UBS. Ethan walked in and the room was a very simple and secure organized design. There was a bookshelf containing piles of data logs in the middle of the room and computers on the side. 

"Hold up there are security scanners in there, I can't shut them down but I can freeze them for a while. You only got 30 minutes in there" Sheldon spoke through the earpiece.

"That's more than enough time, I'll see what I can gather," Ethan replied.

Ethan made the most of his time and started searching for anything that Pr.smite was hiding, instead, he saw a bunch of Data sticks. In other words. USB, one by one he went through them, just plans that happened in the past along with projects and fun speeches. One caught his attention though, project evolution, he opened the log. The playback was in a lab along with professor smite and the general. They talked about a brand new invention. A humanoid design to help protect the world. The speech went on for a while, Ethan speeded the tape until it was just Pr. Smite and the general.

 The general sighed"Listen, Alex."

"That's Professor Smite to you general" Alex interrupted.

"Ok. I'm flattered that you found the same wormhole that got us here but do you think the public will want to go back to Earth. Remember we've been here for centuries and people have already moved on. They are satisfied with their lives now and bringing this up will destroy the balance. Not to mention if we go there, what will we do? You think they will just let us in. They've probably already forgotten about us and assumed we were trying to kill them. Have you forgotten about economics and population issues and who knows how long that wormhole will be there for."

Ethan was mildly confused, what did he mean by a wormhole and Earth. He’s heard of both those terms before but never went into the full depth of what they are.

"Look I'm aware of the consequences of moving back to earth but may I remind you an inevitable threat is coming here. An enemy we thought was defeated by the two heroes wielding the Sword of the hero. Those heroes are no more and I don't see anyone next in line to hold that blade. I say none of your soldiers are worthy enough to possess such power."

"Oh don't be so stupid Alex, Worthy, Heros. This is why we're working on this project. You really believe there is a special person who needs to wield the sword. I'll just give it to my best troops on the field. All I have to do is grab it from the museum and we shall plant our defenses all over Mazurune, in fact, we might not even need that sword and we can go in guns blazing. We will fight this enemy this time even more prepared than the last."

Pr.Smite stood in silence...

"Look Alex, you did your best in the war against him, you even risked your life to save those kids."

Pr.Smite knew what he was talking about, then he spoke.

"I found them during the war. So young and fragile. Born in a world during a terrible time. I just want to keep them safe."

The general stood in silence, he knew that Darkning would return and will destroy the planet. Or at least that is what he heard in his final breaths. He also knew this was a war they could not win

"Alex... Pr. Smite. We need to be prepared and stop this threat from coming, when is he coming"

Pr. Smite hesitate. He turned around slowly and looked at the general when he spoke out his answer

"3 weeks"

The video ended and Ethan was shocked, horrified, and confused. He had no idea how to react to such a short scene. His chest was as heavy as a boulder being pushed up a mountain, His breathing was quicker than a speeding bullet. He refused to believe what he just heard. He was so lost to the point where he was ignoring Sheldon's warning that time was almost up. Suddenly the alarm went off. Ethan snapped back into consciousness and dashed to the door but he got locked in. He was panicking and started looking for a way out. He tried everything, he could hear people entering the lab. As quick as he could, he started going through lab blueprints for and hidden doors like in the movies, to which there was. It was the cliche hidden door behind bookshelves trick. He just needed a key, however, there was no time to lockpick so he used all his strength to push the bookshelves. The scientist was already punching the code. Ethan pushed as hard as he could to get the bookshelf to move, The blood was rushing all over his body and he thought it was the end, but Ethan managed to move the shelf and broke the gears holding the bookshelf. Before going in he grabs the video log containing Darkning and a bunch of other logs. He went on through and slid the bookshelf behind him right before the scientist made it in. The scientist along with police forces got in. They tried using the key on the bookshelf but since Ethan broke the gears it was un-accessible.

Ethan made his way through the passageway and got out of the sewers. He was really grossed out about it, but it was better than getting caught and sent to jail. Ethan went on his Holo-watch and spoke in a fast paste voice like a kid losing his mom

" When was this log created?" To which his watch responded with

"20 days ago"

That's what made Ethan almost scream because that would mean Darkning would arrive tomorrow.

"SHELDON !" Screamed Ethan through his earpiece. He was swinging his way back home in a panic.

Sheldon was confused as to what he was talking about but he had to remain calm.

"I'm sorry what?" Sheldon said in curiosity

"A powerful evil being is coming to earth and we need to stop him."

"STOP IT, HOW? DO YOU KNOW WHO OR WHAT HE IS."

Ethan was obviously panicking and had massive doubts about the upcoming global-scale event that will end the world. Sheldon keeps asking himself many questions while Ethan was still screaming over the mic. Then Ethan stopped, Sheldon knew that he had a plan.

"I don't have a lot of time to explain, but what I know is a being named Darkning is coming to earth and is going to destroy us all, we need to stop it, What if we steal the sword of the hero? from the museum. We can be the ones to defeat Darkning"

Sheldon was a little confused at first. Then he realized what he meant. Ethan was going to single-handedly take on this monster

" I've said many things that you do are suicide, This is a category all on its own, Ethan this is redundant and a cocky act of stupidity."

"Look, we may be the only.."

"ENOUGH with this "we are the only", we are not these kinds of heroes!" Sheldon said in frustration.

 It was the first time Sheldon talked back to Ethan. So Ethan spoke with more reason.

"I'm sorry. Maybe you're correct. This is dumb and maybe we should let the cops and government deal with it. Thank you"

Sheldon felt like he was doing the right thing. Ethan came straight back home before Pr.Smite knew he was gone. When Ethan got back Sheldon was a little mad but glad to see Ethan make it back. Sheldon then said to Ethan.

" Look I know this may look bad but whatever the threat is they can and will handle it."

Ethan knew deep down he was correct. He got back home and put away his mystery suit.

An alarm woke the daylight out of Ethan, He jumped out of bed and ran toward the window and flew the curtains open, It was broad daylight. Ethan sighed assuming that what he saw never happened, But he realized that he had to go back to school now... Sheldon wasn't in his room so Ethan assumed he was already at the school

Ethan had breakfast and packed his school supplies and walked toward the school. He didn't live too far from it so walking wasn't a hassle. It was a sunny day, The air was breezy, the trees danced in the wind and the roads shined. Not a few seconds later after getting near the school Ethan's friend Aurora came running to catch up with Ethan

"Hey, dude," Aurora said trying to sound awake.

"Oh hey, Aurora," Ethan replied

"You alright, you don't look ok," Aurora said sounding concerned

"I'm alright. I just wish we could have won the science fair. Ethan lied, he couldn't tell Aurora what he saw last night or it would drive suspicion.

"Well, we can always get them next time,"

"If there is a next time,"

Amanda laughed and shrugged Ethan's shoulder saying that he was talking crazy. They walked into the school and got in through the main entrance. The main lobby is pretty big, There was a giant spiral staircase in the center of it that connects all the floors together, from 1st to 3rd floor. Ethan and Amanda made their way toward the lockers when they bumped into Kyle.

"Well look who it is. If it ain't Rora and Ethan from the science fair competition. I must say you guys had really good projects... but I guess they couldn't make the cut. I'm sorry, well not really"

Kyle smiled. A random student passing by him gave him a high five, pissing off Aurora. The award was rightfully hers.

"Just wait until next time, we will win," Aurora said while holding back her anger.

The bell rang and Kyle wandered off to his class. Aurora then stormed off to her class without saying another word, leaving Ethan alone. Instead of following her, Ethan decided to get to class, He had math so he hurried on over to class. Now really not a lot of interesting stuff happened during class, it was just usually studying and seeing Kyle strive in his newfound popularity which made Ethan sick. He wanted to punch him but it wasn't in his moral code, and really it was immature. However, for Aurora, it wasn't so pleasant. Kyle and Aurora were both sent to the principal's office because Aurora started a food fight in the cafeteria. It was just her expressing her rage. The school day did end eventually and Ethan walked home with Sheldon. Ethan then remembered what he went through yesterday and became paranoid. He wanted to do so much in life. He wanted to find love, invent something new, become a real hero. Now it will never happen if Darkning comes. They got home and Ethan crashed on the bed. Looking out his window he let out a large sigh of relief that this Darkning thing was not going to happen. He thought that maybe he was just overthinking and that he would be alright. He could continue to live his life as the hero he was.
