Serena lay amidst the thick underbrush of the forest, the canopy above barely allowing the moonlight to pierce through. She awoke with a start, disoriented, the dense fog swirling around her like a shroud. The night was alive with sounds, but one in particular caught her attention a rustling in the undergrowth. Her heart began to race, not out of fear, but a strange, exhilarating anticipation. She strained her eyes to see what lurked in the darkness, but it remained elusive. She felt a presence, something or someone drawing nearer. Her breath hitched as she called out, "Adrian?"
The rustling ceased. From the shadows, a figure emerged, his movement fluid and graceful. He approached her slowly, almost hesitantly, before his hand reached out to caress her cheek. She saw his golden eyes intense, captivating, and filled with a knowing that seemed to pierce through her soul. Just as she was about to see his full face, a loud, insistent knocking pulled her back to reality.
"Serena! Wake up, you're going to be late for college!" Her brother's voice shattered the dream.
Groggy and disoriented, Serena blinked her eyes open to find herself in her bedroom. She groaned, rubbing her eyes as her brother's voice continued, now closer. "You have to get ready for the student body meeting. The new semester starts today, remember? Your friends are already here to pick you up."
Serena sighed, sitting up. "Yeah, yeah, I'm up," she muttered. Her brother, standing in the doorway, looked at her with concern.
"You okay? You looked really anxious and sweaty, like you were having a nightmare."
Serena forced a smile. "I'm fine. Just a bad dream. I watched a horror movie last night. You know how my imagination runs wild."
Her brother nodded, a small smile playing on his lips. "Yeah, your 'boundless imagination' has gotten you into trouble more than once."
"Exactly" Serena said, trying to sound casual. "Can you take my new Bugatti La Voiture Noire? I don't need it since my friends are here".
His eyes lit up with excitement. "Really? Thanks, sis! You're the best." He tried to act cute, making a puppy face.
"Only looked cute when you were little," Serena teased. "Now you just look like a big bear."
He pouted playfully, grabbing the car keys she handed him. "You're just jealous of my cuteness," he retorted, heading downstairs.
Once he was gone, Serena's expression turned serious. She couldn't shake the feeling of disappointment and frustration. The dream had felt so real, and she was desperate to know who the mysterious figure was. She shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts, and hurried to get ready for the day's events.
The auditorium was a grand spectacle, its gothic architecture combined with bright lights giving it the appearance of an ancient museum. The new students were buzzing with excitement, murmuring among themselves. Suddenly, the doors swung open, and a hush fell over the room as the stage lights danced and finally focused on Serena Ravencrest.
Stepping into the spotlight, Serena's presence commanded attention. Her deep, ember-colored gaze scanned the room with a mix of warmth and authority. Her raven hair cascaded down her shoulders, a striking contrast to her flawless ivory skin. Clad in a simple white shirt and tailored black trousers, she exuded a quiet yet undeniable charisma. Her pointed black heels clicked softly on the stage, adding to her aura of confidence and poise.
"Welcome, everyone," Serena began, her voice clear and steady. "As your student body president, it's my pleasure to welcome you to a new semester. Here, we value tradition, excellence, and integrity. While we want you to enjoy your time here, remember that rules are meant to be followed."
Her friend Liam, standing nearby, couldn't resist lightening the mood. "Don't scare them too much, Serena," he joked, stepping forward with a grin. "We don't bite—well, not unless you're into that kind of thing."
The crowd laughed, the tension easing. Serena smiled, grateful for Liam's timely intervention. "Alright, alright. Listen to Liam, but also remember, we have standards to uphold."
As they left the stage, Serena's friends teased her. "You were a bit tough on the newbies, don't you think?" Liam quipped, nudging her.
Serena rolled her eyes. "Oh please, like you could have done better."
"I would have at least thrown in a joke or two," Liam shot back, grinning.
Amelia, another friend, pulled Serena aside to the balcony. "Hey, you seemed a bit off today. Everything okay?"
Serena sighed. "Just a weird dream. You know how my imagination is."
Amelia nodded, understanding. "Well, if you need to talk, I'm here."
Sophia ran up to them, laughing. "Matt is teasing me again! Come rescue me, you two!"
Amelia looked at Serena, sensing she needed some space. "I'll handle it. You stay here."
Left alone, Serena felt the familiar tremble in her heart. The sensation from her dream was back. She opened her eyes and met the golden gaze she had seen in her dream. He was there, watching her. But as she tried to focus, he vanished. She jumped from the balcony, frantically searching the surroundings but found nothing. Frustrated, she decided she wouldn't let these feelings control her anymore.
Her phone buzzed, reminding her of the party invitation Matt had given her. Despite her feelings, she decided to accept. "Maybe it'll help me clear my mind," she thought, sending Matt a message agreeing to be his date.
Later that evening, the Halloween party was in full swing. Serena arrived dressed as a vampire, her red eyes and dark hair enhancing the look. Amelia was a witch, Liam a werewolf, and Sophia a gothic queen. As they entered, the room fell silent, captivated by their presence.
Liam joked, "All the guys here must be jealous of me. I came with the three most beautiful queens of the university!"
Matt appeared behind Serena, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Don't include Serena in that. She's my date tonight."
Liam growled playfully. "Fine, fine. But only for tonight."
The group mingled, playing games and enjoying the festivities. During a game of spin the bottle, it landed on Serena. Sophia grinned. "Truth or dare?"
"Dare," Serena replied confidently.
The group dared her to kiss someone. Matt's eyes gleamed with anticipation, his lips curling into a mischievous smile. The room seemed to hold its breath, the air thick with expectation. Serena's heart pounded in her chest, her mind racing through the possible consequences. She felt the weight of every gaze, her friends' eyes locked on her, waiting for her next move.
Before she could act, a voice cut through the tension like a knife. "Serena, come here. Rena."
She froze. The familiarity of the nickname sent a shiver down her spine. Only her family called her "Rena," and the voice was velvety, commanding, with an unsettling resonance. It was as if the air itself vibrated with the sound. Amelia, noticing the sudden change in Serena's demeanor, shook her gently. "Serena, are you okay?"
"I need some air," Serena said abruptly, her voice strained and distant. She stood up, the room spinning slightly as she made her way to the door. Outside, the cool night air hit her face, bringing a slight relief. She lit a cigarette with trembling hands, the flickering flame illuminating her anxious expression. She took a deep drag, trying to steady her nerves, remembering her brother's advice for calming anxiety.
The voice called again, softer this time, yet no less commanding. "Rena."
Serena felt an inexplicable pull, as if invisible threads were drawing her toward the forest. Her steps were slow at first, hesitant, but the compulsion grew stronger with each passing second. The trees loomed ahead, their dark forms swaying gently in the breeze. The scene from her dream replayed in her mind, vivid and surreal.
"Adrian?" she called out, her voice barely more than a whisper.
He emerged from the shadows, his presence both startling and mesmerizing. His features were sharply defined now—a strong jawline that looked as if it had been sculpted from marble, pale skin that seemed to glow faintly in the moonlight, and full, red lips that hinted at secrets untold. His hair was a striking jet-black, contrasting starkly against his alabaster skin, and it fell in soft waves around his face. His eyes, a deep, burning gold, held her captive, their depths swirling with an unfathomable intensity. They seemed to pierce through her, seeing into the very core of her being.
"Who are you?" Serena demanded, her voice trembling with a mix of fear and curiosity.
He smirked, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "You know me. You called my name."
Frustration bubbled within her, mingling with the fear. "How do you know my name? How do you know me?"
His smirk widened, and for a moment, he seemed almost amused by her confusion. "You'll find out soon enough," he said, his form beginning to fade into the shadows, as if the darkness itself was swallowing him.
"Wait!" Serena cried, reaching out, but her hand grasped only empty air. He was gone, leaving her alone in the silent, eerie forest. The only sounds were the rustling leaves and her own ragged breaths. She stood there, bewildered and shaken. Who was he? How did he vanish so suddenly? The questions swirled in her mind, each one more pressing than the last. One thing was certain—she needed to find out the truth about Adrian and why he haunted her dreams and now her waking moments. The night felt colder, the darkness more oppressive, and Serena knew that her life had just taken a turn into the unknown.
