There would be times in the years to come when Rin Hasekura would ask herself just how she could have been so confident that what she intended for the man would come to pass.
True enough that, even after she had put her “proposition” to him, he had no real idea of just what it was she intended for him and how steely was her determination to achieve it, but the proposition in even its most diluted form had been one to drain the colour from his face and have him leaving her study and her home without a word rather than trust himself to speak and tell her exactly what he thought of her offer.
That he appeared intent not to burn his bridges yet another reason for the optimism that had bolstered her confidence for his first refusal of her offer
