“What say of you, Our King?” asked the Old Council.
Amy watched as Henri’s face turned from that of bewilderment to dawning horror. From the King’s expression, she thought that suggesting a trial was probably a bad idea. She forgot that the Noirans conducted things differently compared to New Yorkers. She can only imagine what happens during a trial in a magical kingdom. When Henri did not answer the Council, Amy looked at the seven mages and opened her mouth. “What is a trial by fire?”
“Our Queen,” the Old Council began. “The trial by fire is a ritual performed on an accused individual. The person shall stand in front of a ceremonial flame in an inquest. It is performed with magic, of course, to draw out the truth from the accused.”
“Is that it?” asked Amy as she ventured her eyes back
