The ominous circle let out a small wave as the invading symbols sneaked to their own. Like it has a consciousness of its own, it trembled and tried to fight back but it was too late. The symbols made of pure light continued to expand within it until they covered the whole circle.
The once sinister magic circle became a blinding white light that engulfed the manor. Then, a tear appeared at the center, above Yulian's head. The tear blossomed with different branches. They slithered in all different directions and the circle shattered. Small fragments of light rained down on him and to every people present.
Yulian turned his attention away from the beautiful but unpleasant scenery. Those lights might be lovely to see but he knew that they were the life forces of everyone present returning to their rightful bodies.
He took a step in the direction of Tim but stopped short. From the door that he came from earlier stood Alex. How long was he there? Did he see everything?
Even though the two were only a few feet apart. Yulian felt a chilling distance from Alex.
Yulian wanted to find another lie to excuse himself but the prince had not noticed his presence, neck exposed and the little bump on his neck was straining against the skin. Alex gazed to the sky with an odd concentration.
"Alex!" Yulian called to him, trying to get his attention. He took a quick stride to reach him. He raised a hand and touch Alex's arm. That's when he realized that there's something wrong with him.
Alex's arm, no in fact his whole body was trembling. From afar, it wasn't noticeable but when he touched him, he could feel the small tremors that enveloped his body.
Getting alarmed at this abnormality, Yulian took hold of Alex's shoulders and tried to shake him awake. "Alex, look at me."
The prince did not so much flinch at his rough actions and continued to raise his chin above. Yulian had to move his two hands from his shoulders to touch Alex's two cheeks, forcibly bringing his gaze down. Then he saw it, in Alex's eyes. Terror and something akin to pain covered his eyes that not even Yulian's reflection could be seen. Tight lips and beads of sweats formed on his temple.
"Alex..." He whispered. "Forgive me."
A palm came down and the sound of skin hitting a skin echoed in the open space.
The slap made Alex's jaw turn sideways. A light spilled on his irises and the stinging pain brought him back to the present.
"Yul?" Alex gained his senses and saw Yulian with a panic expression.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry! Did it hurt?" He did not know where to put his hands, afraid to make contact with Alex's cheeks again.
"I'm fine." A streak of blood seeped from the corner of his mouth which made Yulian yelp in fright.
"No, you're not!" He search for a handkerchief but found nothing so, with one pull he tore a portion of his cloth. He used it to frantically dab the red streak on Alex's chin.
But the used force made the prince avoid his touch and grab his hand to stop him. "I'm fine really."
"You're bleeding."
"It's okay. I'm a healer, remember?" To convince him, Alex opened his mouth and no trace of the wound was there. The bleeding had also stopped.
Yulian calmed down but the feeling of tension still lingered on his body. He can't believe he manhandled a prince! Though it was for an emergency still. And there's the matter of being seen by Alex when made the light circle.
"Are you injured?" Alex's golden lights appeared and made their way to his body, healing the scratches and bruises he got when fighting. Aside from those, he had no major wounds to be concerned over.
The lights retracted back to Alex in satisfaction when he knows he's okay. He then rubbed his head. "Stay here, I'll go check the twins."
Alex turned his back at him and went to the nearest twin.
Yulian was a little baffled at his current situation. As far as he knew, Alex's only ability was healing and maybe he have the potentials to be a magus, he must have seen the circle that almost took everyone's lives.
Did Alex see everything including how he created the light circle even though he's an elementalist? And how much had he seen to have that kind of terror in his eyes when he looked up in the sky?
The answers to these questions only lie in Alex's hands. Later, he will have them, for now, he will let him do his duty in healing everyone. While he have other things to do before the help the marquis called could reach them.
Seeing Alex did not pay attention to him and focus on recovering Leo, Yulian simply went to a corner where he threw the unconscious Tim. He undid his bindings to get rid of his magic's trace. He contemplated on whether to erase Tim's memory of him to ensure he won't rattle to the authority his identity. However before he could even decide, several footsteps thundered from the door, and seconds later, the royal knights entered. Led by a man with a scar across his eye, they scattered around the area. The man with the scar strode to Alex's followed by several knights. They surrounded him, acting like a protective barrier. The leader of the knights swiftly bowed and knelt.
"Your highness, forgive this servant for coming late."
"Get up, Captain. No one could predict this kind of incident to occur here."
"Yes, you are right but are injured, your highness?"
"No, but my friends are. Help me in transferring to the nearest hospital."
The captain bowed in obedience and signaled his men. They first took the twins.
Alex's eyes searched for Yulian and found him on the corner next to a body.
He quickly took a step towards him and as he moved, the knights around him followed close.
"Sorry to leave you alone," He took his hand and pulled him away from the body.
The captain signed for his men to take Tim's body and proceeded to the other one lying a few feet away from them.
The two of them were ushered outside for safety. Along their way, he saw several uniformed knights and healers assisting the unconscious guests and some who had already been awakened.
It was chaos and if it weren't for Alex holding him, he might have been dragged by the investigating knights for questioning.
The captain of the royal knights opened led them to a carriage but before Alex could get inside, Yulian tugged his hand making him turn stop short and look back at him.
"I forgot something." He withdraws his hand. "I'll be right back."
Alex frowned in worry and did not have the chance to prevent him from escaping. He saw how Yulian quickly made his way on the side of the manor. He wanted to follow him but the captain made a firm move from dissuading him. The captain instead ordered one of his men to follow Yulian.
Yulian a knight was following him so hastily went to the stables and found the two people he left.
Clayton stood up when he saw him. "Why did you take so long? Did you find a healer for the - ?"
Yulian put his hand on the mohawk's forehead. A small flash passed through his palm and the mohawk went limped. He catch his body and made him lie down beside the girl. The altering of memories might take some time to settle down in his brain but by the time he wakes up, Clayton will remember nothing of their conversation that night. He will only remember that he was the one who discovered the basement and the girl.
By the time the knight arrived, Yulian had also taken away his spell on Minnie. Her wound opened again but they had enough time to go back to Alex and heal her.
Yulian acted in distress and made the knight quickly carry Minnie then the knight said that he will call another colleague to help them. He nodded obediently and sat down beside the mohawk.
While the knight turned to the left. Yulian made sure to check his spell and not let it cause too many changes in his memories.
Not long after another knight came to get them. Yulian sighed in secret. Everything's settled. All that's left was Tim's. He have to get to him before he could spout his secrets.
From the distance, on a dark area unbeknownst to anyone. A pair of eyes coldly take the chaotic scenes at the manor.
Those useless fools. They got too impatient and let their hatred blind them. The sacrifice that he nurtured for so long had almost been harmed. The person took a deep breath. No matter this minor blunder won't affect his plan. There's only one thing he had to take care of.
He stared intently at the unconscious boy being carried to a carriage to detain him. He then took a step back and the darkness swallowed his body.
