Chapter Three

2015 Words
A few minutes before the event started, Teresa Drew had locked Natalie in the basement. But, unlike before, Natalie was very much prepared. Already used to getting locked in the basement as punishment, she had duplicated the basement key before and always had it on her. That way, she was able to sneak out once in a while and eat. So, she waited patiently until she was sure the event had started, and no one was in the main house. She pulled out the duplicate key and freed herself from the basement. It would be foolish of her to stay locked up when her mother was in the hospital dying. She needed to do something to get money. All her accounts, when added up, weren’t even up to a thousand dollars, and she required fifty thousand dollars for her mother’s medical bills. Getting a job that would pay such an amount was impossible. When Natalie walked out of the basement, she saw the garden that was lit up with a lot of guests who were lavishly dressed. She was sure their net worth would be hundreds of millions, if not billions, but here she was, in the same mansion without even fifty thousand to help her mother. She sighed sadly. “What am I going to do?” Natalie’s mood became depressed. She turned around and walked towards the parking lot, planning on leaving the mansion and never coming back. There was nothing here for her anyway, so why should she keep suffering? Just as Natalie was walking by the parking lot, her eyes shone as she saw different stupendous cars parked in line. Her heart felt bitter, and she felt like crying. Would it be so bad if one or all of these people gathered money for her mother’s treatment? At that moment, an idea popped into her head. What if she asked each of them for at least a thousand dollars? If she can get fifty of them to give her the money, wouldn’t that save her mother’s life? Natalie’s eyes lit up, and she immediately became excited. “That is so smart, Natalie.” She praised herself and rushed to a secluded corner, hoping to approach them individually as they left. Unbeknownst to her, someone had been watching her every move from the shadows. Just as Natalie walked into a corner, she heard a dark voice, causing her to scream out. “What are you? A thief?” Roy’s baritone voice sounded. He had arrived earlier for the dinner party, but events like that did not excite him. So, he decided to stay behind and smoke a little. Who knew he would help the Drews in catching a thief? Natalie became alert immediately. She panicked, hoping to find who the voice belonged to. She prayed that she wasn’t hearing things out of her paranoia. When she saw nothing, she sighed in relief. “I think I am going crazy.” She calmed herself down. Roy scoffed when he heard what she said. The only reason why she did not see him was because he was in the darkest part of the corner, leaning on a wall. Feeling a little entertained by Natalie’s response, he decided to speak again. To know how she would react. “Typical. A thief comes in to steal and decides to act crazy to save herself.” Roy said lightly. His voice was not loud, but it was clear enough to fall into Natalie’s ear. Natalie frowned. “Who are you? Is it fun to make jokes like this? Come out quickly!” she scolded the person as she looked around frantically. Only the heavens knew how scared she was at the moment. After all, if the person decides to kill her and dump her body elsewhere, no one would know. Roy arched a brow. He was surprised to see Natalie still standing. If it were someone normal, they would have certainly run far away by now. But, then again, she wasn’t someone normal. She was a thief. Natalie did not see anyone come forward. “What? Are you scared that I would report you? You came in here uninvited, right?” she was curious to know who owned the voice. Roy’s eyes remained on Natalie’s figure, which was not so visible due to the dark spot she was in. He made no move to step out from his place and just kept on staring at her, wondering who exactly she was. “Move into the light let me see you.” He commanded, feeling a little annoyed not being able to see her correctly. Natalie frowned at the sudden command, “Who do you think you are to tell me what to do?” The truth was that she was a little scared but still put on a brave front. Besides, this was still where she lived. Roy’s mouth twitched. This was the first time someone spoke to him in such a tone. “Fine! I will come out if you come out.” He suddenly replied. Natalie stood still in uncertainty. Could she trust the person? But her curiosity got the best of her, and she walked out of her spot and under the lamppost nervously. “You come out too.” She shouted out, trying to cover up her fear. Roy sneered. “Stupid.” He whispered out in amusement as he got rid of his smoke. Before Natalie could say anything more, she felt a sharp tug on her wrist. A man had come out and dragged her away. “Who are you? What do you want from me?” Natalie’s heart was beating so fast. She felt terrified as she tried to pull out of the man’s grasp. Roy paid no attention to Natalie’s struggle. He was adamant as he moved towards the garden where the dinner party was been hosted. “You are a thief.” He spat out coldly. When Roy addressed her as a thief, she assumed he was a security man who belonged to one of the families at the dinner party. “No, I am not!” Natalie’s tears started pouring as she struggled out of the man’s grasp. All she could see was the back of the man’s head. It seemed like she was not even going to know the face of her killer. Roy finally walked into the garden with Natalie being tugged along. “Let me go!” Natalie cried out as she struggled to escape Roy’s grasp, oblivious to her surroundings. “Mr. Roy, what is happening?” Simon Drew was shocked when he saw Natalie dragged in by Roy. He did not understand what was happening but hoped it would not affect their project. Roy’s face became cold as he looked at Simon Drew. “Mr. Drew, if you want more money, all you do is work harder. Why send a petty thief to steal car parts?” he said disgustingly as he pushed Natalie in front of Simon Drew. Everyone gasped out in shock as they stared at Natalie with irritation. Simon Drew’s face turned black immediately. “Thief?” he stared at Natalie. Did Roy refer to Natalie as a thief? “Fa—” Natalie was about to explain herself, but Simon Drew quickly shut her up. “How did you get in here? Which family do you belong to?” Simon Drew scolded her immediately, not wanting to attach any relationship with her. He looked around, searching to see if anyone would come forward and claim her. Natalie was flabbergasted. Her teary face was now filled with shock and confusion. How could she belong to another family when he was her father? Simon Drew glared at Natalie. There was a strong warning in his eyes, and Natalie knew exactly what he meant: “Guards! Take her away.” He babbled, wanting to end the matter before it grew out of proportion. Roy felt like being entertained. “Why call the guards? If she has no invitation, then how did she get in? If she had help from others, then who knows how many more are around. Call the police.” He analyzed. Usually, he wouldn’t worry about this, but he was somewhat interested today. Simon Drew panicked. He laughed nervously. “You don’t have to worry about these trivial things, Mr. Roy. I will take care of this matter.” He reasoned. There is no way he would get the police involved. If the police get involved, everyone will discover that Natalie is his daughter. Natalie’s lips quivered when she heard the police would get involved. How would she explain that she only looked at the cars because she was waiting to beg for money? No one will believe her. For the first time since they entered the garden, Natalie turned to face Roy. Roy’s mouth went dry immediately after he saw Natalie. She looked so beautiful, and the tears on her face made her look innocent and pitiful. “I am not a thief. You saw me standing alone. Why would you say that?” Natalie cried out, feeling very offended. Roy snapped out of his daze immediately. His aura became cold instantly. He could not believe that he was swooning over a woman. “Whether you are innocent or not, the police will find that out.” He remained stubborn. Laila stepped forward quickly, not liking that Natalie was getting all the attention and was talking to Roy directly. “Mr. Roy!” she called out coyly as she walked between the two. Everyone’s gaze moved from Natalie to Laila. Only when Natalie heard the name from Laila’s mouth, did it register that the man in front of her was THE MR. ROY. The city’s most wanted elite. The man who could cover the sky with his hands. Her eyes widened in disbelief as she took wavering steps back. In the moment of everyone’s distraction, she tried to flee, but Roy quickly held her back. All these while, he was observing her movements. “Since Mr. Drew can’t deal with you, I will.” Roy proclaimed and dragged her out of the garden under everyone’s stunned gaze. Minutes later, Natalie was about to be stuffed into a luxurious car. “I did not steal or want to steal anything, I promise.” Natalie pleaded desperately. Why was today going so badly? Roy did not believe her. “Would a thief say they stole?” he scoffed. “My mother is ill. I only wanted to ask for money from everyone and gather resources for her treatment. Please, don’t take me to the police. I promise not to bother anyone.” Natalie said in between her cries, making her look very innocent and vulnerable. Roy felt moved by her tears. He gulped hard as he stared at her face. There was something about Natalie that made him think, “Money?” he sneered. In the end, it was about money. Natalie bit her lower lip, feeling embarrassed by the tone he used. Regardless, she nodded her head. If that would save her from going to the police, then she would admit to it millions of times again. “Sleep with me,” Roy yelled out of nowhere. He looked stunned by his words, but he quickly covered it up. Natalie’s mouth fell open. “I don’t do things like that.” Her face turned red. Roy frowned. “Isn’t it about money? I have it, and you need it. Sleep with me, and I will give you the amount you need. He thought about retracting his words, but when she rejected him, his masculinity felt challenged, and he pursued the offer. Natalie remained silent. She did not know what to say. Just then, her phone rang. It was the same doctor that called earlier. “Miss Natalie, your mother is about to be discharged. Suppose you can’t make the payment tonight. Her room will be cleared for paying patients.” The doctor’s voice rang out through the phone.
