Scene 1 takes place in the Friar's cell. Friar Laurence and Paris enter the scene discussing Paris's upcoming wedding. Friar Laurence tries to convince Paris to take longer than the two days. Juliet enters the scene and cleverly pushes aside Paris's attempts to speak of the wedding. Paris leaves the scene. Alone Juliet tells the Friar that she has no wish to marry Paris and would rather kill herself. The Friar then suggests that Juliet take a potion that will make hear appear dead and that he will let Romeo know of the plan.
