Chapter 4: Chosen Mate

Quinn’s POV

My face hurts from all the smiling. I don’t think I have ever met so many Alphas, Lunas and sons of Alphas. At first it was my pack that approached me to congratulate me on my new title and I genuinely smiled and laughed with them but soon after the visiting packs came to greet me and congratulate me. If that’s even what you could call it. I could feel the eager alphas and lunas hoping that I would be mated to their sons. I could handle that with ease but the sons were another matter. They were leering at me and undressing me with their eyes. I knew this dress was a mistake but the girls wouldn’t let me chose another when they saw me in this one.

“What if you meet your mate?” Tina pleaded with me. The hopeful look in her eyes made it almost impossible for me to say no.

Soon enough the Alpha and Luna from the riverside pack approached me.

“Alpha Quinn. An honour to attend your ceremony. Never thought we would see the day of a female Alpha but the world is ever changing is it not?”

“Alpha Justin. Very nice to see you. Thank you for attending. I hope that later this week we might meet to discuss renewing our alliance.”

“Come dear, no need to discuss such things tonight. I’d like you to meet our son. He is soon to be Alpha of my pack. Perhaps we should wait for such meetings until he has taken the position over.” With this his son stepped up and took my hand. He bent over and kissed my knuckles while looking up at me. I couldn’t stop the shivers that ran down my back. Something about his brown eyes made the hairs on my neck stand up.

“Good evening Alpha. My name is Carter. Next month I will be taking over as Alpha of the riverside pack. Our borders are south of your pack.” He said as he straightened up to his full height of 6’2” and smirked at me. He thinks your shivers were of pleasure. Freya spoke as she bared her teeth at him. I could feel her anger rising in me but I pushed it back. Behave Freya. He may be smarmy but his pack does boarder ours and I would like a peaceful treaty with them. With that she huffed and retreated in my mind. I’d rather come out and teach him his place. I internally rolled my eyes at her and smiled back at Carter.

“May I call you Quinn?”

“I suppose that would be alright, we will be equals soon.” That a girl. Show him who’s superior! Freya cheers from the back of my mind.

“Would you like to take a small walk with me?”

Something told me to say no but I agreed. I really wanted to start my reign as Alpha on a good note and a peaceful treaty would be a huge win for me. I nodded my agreement and took his offered arm to stroll down the path a ways.

“ You are truly a vision tonight. My father said you were a prize but I didn’t realize until tonight.”

“Ummm, thank you. I’m glad I am able to have this moment with you-“ I replied only to be cut off mid sentence.

“Ah so you feel it too? Good. I’m glad we are on the same page. Chosen mates are not common but under the circumstances I think people will accept us.”

“Oh! No that’s not what I meant. I simply meant that it gives us a chance to discuss a peaceful treaty between our packs. With you coming into your role as Alpha soon this evening gives us-“

“Oh common. I know you feel it. It’s not a mate connection but there is this energy between us. I know you haven’t met your mate tonight and all the local Alphas are here so why not choose each other? No need to discuss silly things like treaty’s when we could join our packs!” He interrupts me again. I could feel Freya’s hackles start to rise and she growled lowly in my mind.

“I’m sorry Alpha Carter but that is not what I’m interested in at the moment.”

“I can run both packs and you will be my powerful Luna. Seems like the perfect arrangement to me. Honestly you’re a female. You can’t possibly run a pack this size. With me as your mate I could defend your pack against attacks!”

I could see his irritation start to rise. His eyes were flashing almost black as his wolf tried to surface.

“Clearly we are not on the same page. If you will excuse me I will rejoin the party.” As I tried to turn and walk away I felt him grab my arm and spin me around.

“What better option do you have? You’re not equipped to run a pack! I am offering you your golden ticket! We connected and our wolves want each other. Just agree damn it!”

As he talked his wolf tried to surface again but all I could see was a petulant child who always gets his way.

“Good evening Alpha Carter. I suggest you release me or you will see just how capable I am.”

My eyes flashed turquoise as Freya surfaced. I did not push her back this time. When he saw our eyes and felt our power he released my arm and backed up a step.

“This discussion is not over.” I heard as I walked back to the party. I didn’t see him again that evening so I suppose he went home. I don’t think a treaty with him is going to be easy. We are going to have to think of some way for our packs to be mutually beneficial to each other if I’m going to pull this off. Freya nodded her head and curled back up in the back of my mind but I couldn’t help feel as tho I was being watched.
