Chapter Two: News

“Mom?” Her mother was sitting in her rocking chair, crying. She’s had been ever since they had come home from visiting their father.  “Mom, what’s wrong?” “Nothing sweetheart. It’s nothing.” Kiahlynn went and sat down with her back to her mother. She felt her mother start playing absentmindedly with her hair.  “Mom... please. What is worrying you?” “Your father....” Kiahlynn turned her head. “He’s safe mom. I promise.” “Not this time love.” Her mother once again went silent, still playing with strands of her hair. Her eyes were glassy, looking at a far away point. Kiahlynn slowly moved forward, letting her hair fall out of her mother’s grasp. She stood, and went to find her older brother. She knocked on his door, and when he gave a muffled reply, she opened it and went to sit in the bed.  “Tyson, what’s wrong with mom?” “What do you mean?” “I mean, she’s in there crying, and has been since we got home from visiting dad... I don’t think everything is as good as they made us believe.” “I’m sure it’s not,” he agreed. “I wish I knew something too, but I know about as much, or probably less than you and Mynach do.” "Do you think that she'll be okay tonight?"  Tyson nodded slightly. "we'll make sure she gets to bed, and then we have to monitor her." "I wish dad were here..." Kiahlynn muttered. "He'd know what to do." "Well, it's just you and me, and maybe Mynach if he's up for it."
