A heart in pieces

Scene: Isabella's Apartment – After the Breakup The door slammed shut as Isabella entered her apartment, her heart racing with a cocktail of emotions—anger, hurt, confusion, and the overwhelming ache of losing Nathan. Her hands trembled as she dropped her purse onto the couch, her eyes brimming with unshed tears. The weight of it all felt unbearable. Mercy entered quietly, watching Isabella, her expression full of concern. "Isabella," she said softly, stepping toward her. "Please, talk to me. You're hurting yourself by holding all of this in." Isabella didn’t respond immediately. She simply sank onto the couch, her head in her hands. "I can’t, Mercy. I just can’t do this anymore." Mercy sat beside her, reaching out and placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. “You don’t have to go through this alone. You don’t have to keep everything bottled up inside.” Isabella’s shoulders shook as sobs escaped her chest. "I love him so much. I’ve never loved anyone like I love Nathan... but every time I think we have something real, something pulls us apart." Her voice cracked as she spoke, her pain spilling out in waves. "I didn’t want to fight with him. I didn’t want to hurt him," she continued, her voice raw. "But now... now I don’t even know what’s real anymore. Alina has everything I don’t. And Nathan... he can’t be mine if this is how it’s going to be." Mercy’s hand tightened gently on Isabella’s shoulder, offering a silent comfort as her friend cried. “You’re not alone in this. You’re not alone, Isabella,” Mercy whispered, her voice tender. “But you have to understand that love isn’t always easy. Sometimes the most painful moments are the ones that help us grow.” Isabella sniffled and wiped her eyes, looking up at Mercy. “What if it’s too late, though? What if I’ve already lost him?” Mercy met her gaze, her eyes full of empathy. "You don’t know that yet. Nathan loves you. And what you’re feeling right now—it’s just part of what you two have to go through. Relationships, especially real ones, aren’t simple. But they’re worth fighting for, and you’re worth it too." Isabella leaned against her friend, her voice barely above a whisper. “I can’t lose him, Mercy. He means everything to me. But I don’t know how to fix this. I don’t even know if he still wants me.” Mercy pulled her into a gentle embrace, offering a sense of safety and understanding. "You won’t lose him if you’re both willing to fight for each other. But first, you have to allow yourself to feel everything. The hurt, the anger, the confusion—it’s all part of the journey." Isabella cried into Mercy’s shoulder, her body wracked with sobs. "I don’t know if I can keep going through this. I just don’t know if I can do it anymore." Mercy simply held her, offering the kind of silent support that only a true friend could. They didn’t need words in that moment; they just needed to be there for each other. After a while, the sobs began to quiet down, and Isabella pulled back, wiping her eyes. She gave Mercy a shaky smile, though the hurt was still visible in her expression. “Thank you, Mercy. I don’t know what I’d do without you.” Mercy smiled back, her voice soft but firm. "You don’t have to worry about that. I’m always here. Now, you need to take a deep breath, focus on what you want, and decide what you’re willing to fight for. Nathan might be confused right now, but I know deep down he still cares about you. You have to trust that." Isabella nodded, even though uncertainty still clouded her thoughts. She took a deep breath, feeling the weight of everything, but knowing she couldn’t let this be the end of her love story with Nathan. --- Scene: Nathan Confronts Alina Nathan stormed into Alina’s penthouse, his fists clenched at his sides as he approached her. She sat gracefully on the couch, the same calm demeanor she always wore, but Nathan’s anger was unmistakable. “Why did you release the recording?” Nathan’s voice was cold, cutting through the tension in the room. “You knew what you were doing. You wanted to ruin everything between me and Isabella.” Alina’s lips curved into a smile, but it wasn’t a pleasant one. “I had to protect myself. You were about to embarrass me by backing out of our engagement, and I couldn’t let that happen, Nathan.” “I never loved you, Alina,” Nathan’s voice was unwavering, filled with an emotion he hadn’t spoken aloud in years. “You were never more than a pawn in this game, and I’m done playing along. I’ve made my decision—I love Isabella, and nothing you do will change that.” Alina’s eyes narrowed. “You think this is over? That easily? You’re not just walking away from me, Nathan. You’re walking away from everything—the legacy, the money, the power. You think she’s going to give that up for you?” “I don’t care about any of that,” Nathan replied, his voice fierce. “I’ve never cared about it. I don’t want this life if it means being stuck in a marriage with someone I don’t love. I want Isabella.” “You’re making a mistake,” Alina said quietly, standing up. “You think she’s going to choose you over everything else? Over the future? You’re naive, Nathan.” Nathan didn’t flinch. “I’ve made my choice. And I’m not changing my mind. This engagement is over.” The air between them thickened as Alina stared at him, her expression shifting from fury to something darker—disappointment, perhaps, but more than that, a sense of control. “You can’t just walk away, Nathan,” she warned, her voice low, threatening. “My family has too much at stake here.” “I don’t care. It’s over,” Nathan said, his final words hanging in the air like an unspoken promise. As Nathan turned to leave, Alina called after him. “You’ll regret this, Nathan. You’ll see. No one walks away from me unscathed.” ---
