I was prowling on the border of the pack territory, my senses keen and alert. It was my turn to patrol, and I had to carry out my duty even in my Alpha's absence. He had taken my Luna out for a date, leaving me responsible for the pack's safety.
The night air hung still, a sense of calm enveloping the territory. As I continued my patrol, my acute senses picked up nothing out of the ordinary. The rustling of leaves, the distant hoot of an owl – all were familiar sounds. There was no hint of danger lurking nearby.
