CHAPTER 4

MABEL’S POV. “You are serious about this one?” Emma asked Zach, crossing her arms. “Why not choose one of the girls here? They are trained for this.” Zach lounged against the couch. “She’s exactly what I need.” Emma raised a brow, glancing between us before finally shrugging. “Your problem, not mine.” Then she walked out, leaving me alone with him. “Come on,” Zach said. I followed him outside reluctantly, my heels clicking against the pavement. Parked near the entrance was a sleek black motorcycle. I stopped. “We are taking that?” “It’s faster.” “I can barely breathe in this dress, and you want me on a motorcycle?” He ignored the complaint completely as usual, grabbed a helmet and tossed it at me before putting his own on, and when he lowered the dark visor over his face, something about it looked unfairly attractive and annoying. I climbed on behind him with a dramatic sigh. “Hold on tight,” he said. “I’m not holding you.” “Then fall off.” I narrowed my eyes at the back of his helmet. The motorcycle shot forward so suddenly that a startled sound nearly escaped me. Cold air slammed into my skin as we sped through the city, lights streaking past in blurs of gold and white. At first I stubbornly kept my hands gripping the edge of the seat, refusing to touch him, but the moment he accelerated my pride lasted all of five seconds and I ended up grabbing his waist tightly, pressing closer so I wouldn't fly off the damn bike. A low laugh rumbled through his chest. “Thought you said you weren’t holding me.” “Shut up.” His shoulders shook slightly with amusement, but he didn’t say anything else. Almost forty minutes later, the motorcycle slowed in front of massive iron gates guarded by armed men. My heart raced. The enormous mansion hidden deep within the forest looked less like a home and more like the estate of a crime lord. One of the guards stepped forward immediately. “Code?” “Black Hollow,” Zach replied and they opened the gate. We rode through the estate while men watched us from nearly every corner. I felt their eyes on me the entire time. A middle-aged man stepped outside wearing an expensive silk robe loosely tied at the waist. A glass of whiskey rested lazily in one hand. “Well, well,” he drawled. “Didn’t expect to see you tonight, Alpha Zach.” Zach removed his helmet and tilted his head toward me. “Brought you a gift.” The man’s eyes slowly traveled over my body, lingering far too long on my legs. “Well,” he murmured approvingly, “that certainly is thoughtful of you.” My stomach dropped, realizing I was the gift. The older man stepped aside. “Come in.” We followed him upstairs into a private lounge overlooking the estate grounds. “Drink?” the man offered casually. Zach nodded once. “Sure.” The second the man walked away, Zach turned toward me. “I need you to distract him while I search for something,” he said quietly. My eyes widened. “No.” His expression didn’t change. “I wasn’t asking for permission.” “You can’t seriously expect me to—” “You sold yourself to me, remember?” He replied coldly. “So do what I say.” Before I could answer, the man returned with champagne glasses in hand. “What are you whispering about?” he asked with a grin. “I was telling her about your art collection. She loves art.”Zach responded. The older man brightened instantly. “Ah, really?” he said excitedly. “Then I must show you around. I’m always looking for an excuse to show off my collection.” “Go on,” Zach said, gesturing toward him. I stood reluctantly, subconsciously tugging my dress lower. “She’s shy, isn’t she?” the man snickered before pulling me roughly against him. His hand rested dangerously close to my ass as he leaned toward my ear. “Don’t worry. I’ll take good care of you.” I turned to Zach, stupidly hoping that he’d realize how messed up this was and stop it. But he only took a sip of champagne, completely unreadable. Fucking asshole. The man led me into a massive bedroom filled with expensive paintings and sculptures. He talked nonstop about every single piece while I barely listened, too busy trying not to panic. Eventually, he sat on the edge of the bed and patted the spot beside him. I hesitated before sitting down carefully. His hand slid onto my thigh almost immediately. “You’re beautiful,” he murmured. “Do you know that?” I forced a tight smile. His fingers traced slow circles against my skin as his eyes moved over me shamelessly. “Women like you are dangerous,” he said softly. “Too pretty. Makes men stupid.” My entire body tensed as his fingers slid higher. “You have soft hands,” he continued, lifting one to his lips. “I wonder what else about you is soft.” I wanted to throw up. I didn’t have to do this. I wasn’t some object Zach could throw at people whenever it benefited him. The moment his hand moved higher again, I shoved him hard in the chest and jumped off the bed. “Don’t touch me.” For a second, the room went completely still. Then his expression darkened. “Oh,” he said slowly. “So you like it rough?” My pulse spiked. He moved suddenly, grabbing my wrist and throwing me backward onto the mattress so hard that it momentarily stopped my breathing. Fear slammed into me. He climbed over me, pinning me down before I could shove him off— BANG. The bedroom door flew open violently, slamming against the wall. I jerked upright in shock. Zach stood at the entrance, dragging a bloody man by the hair across the floor. The guard groaned weakly, blood pouring from his nose. “What the hell?” the middle-aged man barked, scrambling off me. Zach casually released the unconscious man and dusted off his sleeve. “Sorry to ruin your little party,” he drawled. “But your i***t guard tried to drug me.” His eyes flicked toward me briefly. “So I’m taking my girl and leaving.” “You can’t take her,” the man snapped angrily. “We were just getting started. Zach’s expression darkened with anger as he crossed the room in seconds, grabbed my arm, and pulled me behind him. The older man lunged forward. “You arrogant little—” Zach punched him before he could finish causing the man to stumble backward and smash face-first into the dresser. Blood immediately poured from his nose.He stared at it in disbelief before glaring up at Zach with pure fury. “You’re going to regret this.” Zach smirked. “I’d love to see you try.”
