MABEL’S POV. I walked onto campus the next morning, my bag strap digging into my shoulder. At first, I told myself the stares and hushed conversations meant nothing. My therapist had said it more times than I could count that sometimes insecurity makes ordinary noise feel personal, like everyone is talking about you when they really aren’t. I tried to believe her but the feeling stayed with me all the way to the lecture hall.
