Deep’s first day at the Andrew Hodgkins Humanities Research Center was spent trying to gauge the volume of work he expected to accomplish over the next nine months. He was there to look at the letters and manuscripts of Ronald Strathern.
But nine months might not be enough time to read through all the material available in the library. As requested, a large number of boxes were sent to his desk. Facing the impossibility of reading all their contents, he asked the cheery-faced lady at the front desk not to call forth any more.
He brought out the files from each of the boxes and found that many contained letters that Strathern had written to various publishers asking them to publish his writings on Hinduism.
