Summer Series 1

Chapter 2: The Core

The voonzes attending them rushed to Summer and River. "Leave everything to them, they'll take care of everything," said one of them and carried Summer. "We'll get him," Aristide said and put River's arm to his shoulder while Kianni helped him putting River's other arm to her own shoulder. The voonz that carried Summer teleported them to the infirmary. 

Nursemaid Athaia tended to Summer while nursemaid Tatiana tended to River. Both River and Summer were unconscious. The two nurses checked their vitals. It took them long to finish up the overall examinations. Summer and River have undergone IST or imaging scanning technology or in the human world, it was being called MRI. IST scans the whole body of a creature to show at the monitors the inside image of the specific parts of the body. It is safe to perform IST to creatures even if it is unconscious. IST was intended to be used at any state of health of a creature. It is to ensure proper and quick response to creatures that are needed medical attention. Meanwhile, Aristide and Kianni just had bruises and cuts. Their health is good. They were free to leave the infirmary but they chose to wait for the result.

While waiting for River and Summer's result, voonzes Nick, Gorka, Quinn, and elvyre Blaze arrived. "How are they?" voonz Nick asked. "They're currently undergoing overall examinations. They were both unconscious when they were brought here. They had a huge battle they said. I'm voonz Oli anyways," the voonz that brought the lightning team at the infirmary said. "I'm elvyre Blaze. I was the one who sent them to that mission. Where are the others of the team?" elvyre Blaze asked. "They get something to drink at the cafeteria. They'll be back any minute now," voonz Oli answered. "We've watched what happened during the battle. Lhandefeen is always monitoring the trainees going on a mission but I wanna know the report of their leader," elvyre Blaze said. "Unfortunately, we didn't have any official report yet from the team due to the emergency that occurred earlier as the two of them were in a critical state so we decided to deal with their health first, but the other two were fine," voonz Oli explained. They saw nursemaid Tatiana walking towards them with a folder in her hand.

"The male human is physically distorted. It was not severe. He was unconscious because of the shock. I already gave him a healing potion. He's in good condition now. You just have to wait for him to wake up," the nurse said. "Thank you," voonz Gorka said. The nursemaid walks off after giving them the result of River's examinations. As nursemaid Tatiana walked away from them, nursemaid Athaia, Aristide, and Kianni arrived.

"The female fairy is in bad shape. Her physical health is good, nothing's distorted but I want you to look at her chest scans. Follow me," nursemaid Athaia said. All of them followed the nurse inside the room where they saw monitors and Summer still unconscious lying inside the IST tube. "This is her chest scans showing," nursemaid Athaia pointed at the monitors. Summer's chest is glowing blue luminance. Her heart is enclosed by the round blue luminous object. The blue luminous object is moving according to her heartbeat. It is expanding and shrinking to Summer's heartbeat. "That core power is awakened and it's draining her strength," the nursemaid said. "Amazing...." voonz Nick said. "Also her wings were fine, no broken wings but It's not disappearing and it's out of the ordinary," the nursemaid said. "She's got wings? When?" voonz Quinn asked surprised. "Since the battle between her and that orc with the name Azmondius," Kianni said. Everyone fell silent.

After seeing Summer's condition, they all went out of the room. "I'm going now. I'm sorry but there are other teams that are still on their mission and I need to monitor them," elvyre Blaze said. "Me, too. I still have pending jobs at my office," voonz Gorka said. "It's okay. I'll take care of everything here. You two also. Go home now or if you still have something to do, do it now. I'll take care of those two," voonz Nick said. "Perhaps you two go to the Phega'an Station ehrm...after you get changed? It's up to you but file your official report now. They need it," elvyre Blaze said. "You can come with me. I'm heading now. I left my job for a while and I need to go now also," voonz Oli said. "Oui, monsieur," the two answered.

River woke up the next day but Summer was still asleep and she was moved to the patient's room and put on dextrose for her not to get dehydrated because her body fluid was dropping. River stayed for half of the day and went home after he asked for the infirmary release. Voonz Nick was not sure but he insisted that he's fine and so he let him. Both of them went to the cafeteria of the infirmary and eat before going to the academy. "I was so hungry. I feel like I didn't eat for days," River said while stuffing his mouth with food. "You were asleep for one day," voonz Nick said. River was surprised. His eyes grew wide. He remembered the explosion. "I can't believe it," he said. "Yes!" voonz Nick said. They continue eating.

After they eat, River went to the academy to take a shower and change his clothes, while voonz Nick went back to Summer and waited for voonz Quinn to replace him. They decided to have a schedule to watch for Summer so that they can still do their job while taking care of her. The seven human kids were like sons and daughters to them. They were taking care of them when they found out that they have been sneaking in and out of the fairy world. They met them when they enrolled for admission of trainees at Lhandefeen and they asked them how they get in the fairy world. They were surprised when they said that they came by accident and they loved coming back since they learned that this world is existing. From then on, they keep them company and they loved them. All they could do was laughed at their quirkiness and they've felt being kids again. Their innocent mind speaks loud when they talk even when they fight over shallow things. Now that they're all teenagers in their human years, they loved them even more like they were their one child.

After two days, Summer woke up and she was so starving and thirsty. She felt her chest hurt. She clenched it to ease the pain and fixed her hair after. She went out of the room in her patient suit. She didn't see anyone familiar to her. She feels strong even though her chest is hurting and she's starving, so she can use magic. She used her teleportation to go to Kheilev's. It was dark when she gets to Kheilev's. "Whoah! I never thought that it's already night. I might have slept for hours," she said thinking that it was still the day when she passed out at the Phega'an Station. "Hi, Kheilev!" she greeted the owner of the restaurant. "Hi! You're awake now. I heard about what happened. How are you now?" he said. "Well, I'm fine now and I'm really starving," she said feeling her chest burning. She clenched it to ease the pain. "Are you okay?" Kheilev asked. "Yeah. I'm fine. It's just hurting since I came back but it's fine. Can you give me ten meals, please? Anything," she said frowning in exaggeration. "I'm really starving right now and thirsty," she added. "Sure! Sit down there and I'll serve it to you," he answered. A couple of minutes later, Summer was engulfing her food. Kheilev served her assorted meals so she can taste it all differently and have more appetite eating. Summer enjoyed rummaging her food. She was really starving. She ate all of her orders and drained a gallon of water until her thirst was quenched. She felt like she didn't eat for days nor even drink water.

After eating, she feels replenished all over. Her watch beep. Voonz Nick showed up on the screen. "Hi!" she said waving and smiling at him. "Summer!" he said freaking out. Summer was shocked her eyes grew wide. "W-what?" she asked curiously. Voonz Nick calms himself before talking, "Where are you? We've been looking for you," he said sounds like whispering. "Well, I'm at Kheilev's. I was starving when I woke up so I teleported here to eat. I'm fine," she assured him smiling but suddenly grimaced and she clenched her chest. It's hurting again. Voonz Nick saw it, "Your chest hurts?" he asked. "Yeah. I've felt this since my wings came out and until now it's still hurting even if I slept for hours already. Anyways, I think I overslept, I didn't know that it's night already. My teammates for sure was done with their reports," she answered. "You slept in more than two days, Summer. Wait for me there. Don't leave, okay?" he said ignoring her. "What!? I slept in two days!? How on earth did that happen? I've never done it before," she said doubting. "Well, you've done it now. Okay? I'll come to pick you up. Don't leave," he said. "What!? Why!? I'll just go back there on my own, I'm fine, voonz. I can take care of myself," she complains. "No. Listen. Something's off about you. Your power has the possibility of draining you so do not use it. We know. Okay? I'll explain it to you later. Don't leave. Tell Kheilev I'll pick you up," he insisted. "Hmmm...kay" Summer answered lazily and the line was cut. "He said he's coming to pick me up. Unbelievable," she complains and slouched her face on the table. "He's just worried about you, kid. You know how much your father voonzes care for you and your siblings," Kheilev said and served her a hot green tea. "Yeah. I know and we all know. Hmm...it smells like vanilla Kheilev. What's this?" she asked forgetting about her complaint. "It's a green tea grown by the pixies in the forest. It will help replenish your good spirit," he answered and smiles. "Thank you," she smiled. Kheilev smiled back.

A couple of minutes later, voonz Nick arrived through teleportation. "Wow! You're not wearing your suit!? Just now, voonz," she said making an intimidating look on voonz Nick. She laughed. Voonz Nick on the other hand was amused at her reaction. "Crazy kid," he said shaking his head while Summer laughed even more. "Thank you for making her stay, Kheilev," he said to Kheilev. "You're welcome," Kheilev answered. He teleported Summer back to the infirmary. They head on straight to her room and nursemaid Athaia checked her vitals and IST her chest again and they saw the same image. They went on to Summer's room after.

"How do you feel right now?" voonz Nick asked standing in front of her. "I'm feeling great. I'm not starving and thirsty. My chest was constantly hurting but I can attend my classes tomorrow," she said with a bright face indicating that her health is really fine. Voonz Nick looked straight at her, "Okay. Now, I want you to understand this. Listen carefully. Your chest is hurting because your inner power has awakened. Your core has enclosed your heart and it is dominating your heart and your energy. You have a very strong power within you that is waiting to come out and you have to control it. In order for you to be able to control your core, you have to undergo training on how to control a core that has just opened. Remember, the body that cannot control the power, the power does the body. If that happened, you will be just like a ticking bomb ready for destruction all the time.  We will help you control your core. Your strong, Summer. Your power is something out of ordinary. You have to prepare yourself to control it. You were sleeping for two days and you need that kind of rest after your training tomorrow because core power drains the energy of the body but I know that you're strong. You're Oleander's great-granddaughter and his blood runs in your veins," voonz Nick explained well and Summer clearly understood every word that he uttered. Although she's excited that her core power has awakened and she's been waiting for this to happen the whole time, she needs to restrain herself from screaming and she did a great job. "I did sleep for two days!? I can't believe it! But I understand. I'm excited about it though. So what do I need to do now?" she asked keeping it together. "Being happy with your power is a great thing. It means you're mentally and emotionally prepared for what might happen to your training tomorrow," he said. He handed her a big book that she's sure is one of the oldest books at Adhigranth Bibliotheque.

"Krafwancer....(read as kra-van-cer). Isn't this the book of advanced magic?" she asked putting the book down on the bed. "Yes. And I want you to read it," he answered and he sits down on the couch in front of Summer's bed. He wanted to see how her core would react to her feelings and thoughts while reading the advanced magic guidelines. Summer fell silent and started opening the big book.



“Conjure magic to experience it. Experience magic to feel it. Feel the magic to conjure it. A Voonz is a strong-willed creature. A knight of his own legacy. The king’s warrior. The kingdom’s protector. The gem’s protector.”  That was the preface of the book. She nods at the passage. She understood it clearly. She turned to the next page. “Pitch dark. You’re in an empty pitch dark. Cold wind blows around your neck. Feel the cool breeze of air flowing gently in your whole being.” She suddenly felt like she's in an empty chamber sitting alone in the middle of the room and she could feel her hairs were standing. “Feel the magic within. Let it flow through your body. Slowly let it out through your palms. Air magic is flowing. The power is flowing through your whole being.” It gave her a shiver and she felt warm on her chest. “Cast magic within. Feel the heat within. The heat’s growing. You’re fire. Your whole being is a fire. Let it flow through your body.” She could feel her chest hurts. She clasped it. It’s burning. She clasped it with her hand. She continues reading. Nick saw everything. Summer's power was always ready to go, that's what he thought. Whatever feeling and thought Summer would have, it was reacting to it. It was following her all the time. Nick smiles at the thought. Her core is stubborn. He already knows what to do with her tomorrow. She doesn't need to stop it. She needs to let her power out.

“Make it big. Make it bigger. Air fire is blue. Blue as ocean ice. A fire shapeshifting. Blue rises to your aura.” She's sweating. She feels hot. Her chest burns even more. “You’re fire. Let it heats up. Let it burn. Let it flow through your body. Keep calm. Maintain the energy that's within. You’re fire. Let the energy flow through your body.” She stopped reading. "I can't believe I get sweaty and shaky. My chest is burning. I feel like a giant torch right now," she complains. "It is because your core was reacting to your thoughts. It's not only you who's reacting to the magic around you. Your core can sense magical objects and magical thoughts or even acts. You and your core are one, just like you and your heart. Your core encloses your heart and now your heart is your core. Watch this," Nick said and showed Summer the video of her IST. Summer was amazed. She realized now why her chest is hurting. According to what she saw, her core is surrounding her heart.

“An empty soil ground. Needs to be planted. Seeds. You need seeds. Its radicle is waiting to hold the ground. Its epicotyl is waiting to emerge on top of the ground. Put it on the ground. Let the ground eat it. Water. Sunlight. Water. Sunlight. Water. Sunlight. One sprout emerges. Two. Three. Six. Ten. Make them more. Make it grow. Make them trees. Make them vines. Make them flower. Make them bloom. Make them grow. Make them forest. Make the forest’s power grow. Let it grow in you. Feel the power of the ground with your palm. Let the power flow through your body. Let the vines grow into your being. Let the forest be you. Feel the vines. The leaves. The air swaying you. You are the forest. You are the vines. The trees. You are the power within nature. Let it out. Let it flow. Let it grow.” She was always fascinated with performing plante (read as plont) magic. She wants to learn how to create potions and medicine, how to fix plants and forests, how to conjure vines and leaf razors, and how to control nature's energy. "I can't believe this is a book on how to perform new element magic. This is just like what you've made us do when we were just kids, the time when I discovered my lightning power. This is the same," she said.

"This is to prepare you to use your core power," voonz Nick answered. Summer continued reading and finished just almost half of the book. She fell asleep while taking a break. Nick took the book from the bed and put it on the table. He put a blanket on Summer and he went to sleep on the couch.

The next morning, voonz Nick woke up early. He left Summer to voonz Quinn. He needs to prepare for Summer's training later.

"Bonjour, voonz!" she greeted voonz Quinn. "Bonjour!" he greeted her back. "I think I'm gonna go home and prepare for later," she said. "Alright. And I'm gonna take care of your release. You can go ahead first," he said. "Thank you," she smiles.

Summer bought breakfast on her way home and she eats first before taking a bath. She brushed her teeth after eating. She dries her hair, put on new suits, put on light make-up, comb her deep violet long hair and put a hair scrunchie on some of her short hair at the back of her head making it look like a fox tail, then, she put on her deep violet cap slipping her ponytailed hair on its hole making it looks messy as a nine-tailed fox, then lastly, she put on her star-shaped blue small sling bag. Bexley made her bag and she's one of the great designers of the royal palace. She's voonz Nick's girlfriend but not really, she's just teasing voonz Nick to Bexley and to the palace hairdresser, Ashay. They are their friends since they came to Pharrhiio. The small sling bag Bexley made has a cool feature she loved the most. She could put her lunch packs in it and for her it's cool. She put on her white boots and he checked herself in the mirror. She looked pretty. She sprayed on lots of perfume and then head on out. She just needs mint gums to wake her up on the way. She stepped out of her door and locked it. She passed by her friends' rooms but she's sure at this moment they were all at the academy. It's already late.

She teleported back to Lhandefeen. She went to the meeting room voonz Nick usually bring them in case of something like this. She saw River in the room. Even elvyre Blaze and Kel were in the room, too. Inside an empty training chamber, Voonzes Nick, Gorka, and Quinn closed the blinds and curtains, then, turn off the lights. They put a shield around them but keep River outside of it, “This is to avoid destruction if ever you explode,” voonz Nick said annoyingly grinning at her and winked knowing that Summer needs to let all of her powers out. River put his own shield. Voonz Nick flickers a small lightning ball on his hand that serves as the light all around the room. Summer sit squat in the middle of the room while the three voonzes surrounded her and the two elvyres watched at the corner of the shield. River was standing leaning on the wall at the most corner of the room. “We want to see how your power lights this room. Now, tell me about the first magic that you’ve read on the Krafwancer,” voonz Nick said. “I’ve read about casting a fire magic,” she said. “Okay. Now, I want you to do the instructions the way how you understood what you’ve read…” he said. She looked at him silently for a minute. “Or you want me to instruct it to you?” he asked. “No. I remember everything. I’ll do it myself,” she said. “Let all of your power out and don’t mind anything just finish performing the whole page,” voonz Nick said. They started. 



She closed her eyes, her hands open on her knees. She can feel the cool wind blowing around her. It’s cold as ice. “Pitch dark. You’re in an empty pitch dark.” She feels cold. “Cold wind blows around your neck. Feel the cool breeze of air flowing gently in your whole being. Feel the magic within. Let it flow through your body. Slowly let it out through your palms. Air magic is flowing. The power is flowing through your whole being. Cast magic within.” Her chest burns. “Feel the heat within.” Her chest is even more burning. “The heat’s growing.” “Hmm….” Summer's groaning in the pain in her chest. “You’re fire. Your whole being is a fire.”  She continued.  When they were just kids, this is the kind of magic training Lhandefeen was always making them do and voonz Nick always meet them in this room to give them advance training, but sometimes the three voonzes were bringing them to the woods or to the hillside or at the mountain just for the advance magic training. That's the reason why she knows what this training is for. It is to cast element magic and this time voonz Nick is making him cast fire element magic which is new to her. She never conjured any other element other than her wind charm magic and the inherited lightning of Oleander.   



She let the energy flow all over her body making her temperature rise. She could feel something on her chest opened and it delivered her so much relief from pain in her chest. She continues flowing the energy each time her chest burns. “Let it flow through your body. Make it big. Make it bigger.” As her chest burns again, her temperature rose even higher as she released more energy each time. “Air fire is blue. Blue as ocean ice. A fire shapeshifting. Blue rises to your aura.” She doesn’t know what’s going on with her, but her whole body was burning hot, and she felt so light that she can float in the air which she did.  



“You’re fire. Let it heats up. Let it burn. Let it flow through your body.” “Aaahhh!” Summer yelled. She can’t take it any longer. She had burst. Her body straightened up as she burst her power out. Her whole body was so hot that she couldn’t take any more heat but her core was still releasing which she needs to flow all over her. Her whole body was emitting a bluish luminous aura. Her eyes were closed, and she didn't know what was going on around her. But she continued as voonz Nick instructed her to finish the whole page. “Keep calm. Maintain the energy from within. You’re fire. Let the energy flow through your body. Slowly let it out through your palm.” As she continues she just thought that all she needs to do is let all of her power out and use it without causing any destruction to decrease the high temperature inside her body. She let her powers out of her palm with her eyes closed and she felt such relief. Her palm emitted a ball of bluish fire and it's expanding. “You’re fire. Let it heats up. Let it burn. Let it flow through your body.” As she continues, she keeps repeating everything, and she thought that if she's going to do it over and over again she'll just go through the same phase again. Her core will release heat again to her body. She will reach her limit again soon. “Let it flow through your body. Make it big. Make it bigger.” But she continued.  

 A little later, she's finished and she opened her eyes. A bluish luminous whirlwind encloses her. Her body’s emitting a blue luminance. That’s her aura. She didn't felt anything like this to come out. Her whirlwind moves fast-moving elliptically. The one that she used to Azmondius was white. All she can see is blue fire, lightning, and wind magic element emerging from her whirlwind that encloses her inside. She repulsed her whirlwind and she saw everyone in the same position. She gets down on the ground. They tend to her carefully except River who can’t. She repulsed her aura. Her chest feels fine now. 

 “How are you feeling?” voonz Nick asked. “I feel super light and incredibly warm,” she answered. River stepped toward them but he stumbled on his own feet. Summer's instinct moved, she got near River in a split-second without anyone noticing and she catches him like a feather grabbing his clothes. She was shocked like how everyone was. They glanced at each other.

"Whoah! This is amazing!" she screamed. Everyone was happy for her. "You have cast fire element but you still have plante, water, and earth element," voonz Nick said. "But she did great. It was easy for her to control her core," elvyre Blaze praised her, "Yes. When you cast that blue whirlwind earlier and you vanished it, you have controlled your core already. Now, it's time for you to learn the three other elements," elvyre Kel said. "Okay!" Summer said.

She started concentrating while sitting squat and floating. She floats because that’s what she feels convenient. She let out everything that she can from her core. She focused on creating plant element magic. She followed the Krafwancer and finished the whole page. She did it successfully. She was amazed by the fact that she can learn medicines and potions now.

"I think let's continue after lunch. We still have two elements more but our student was already exhausted," voonz Nick suggested. Everyone agreed. "You have to remember, your core is your source of power. It's your own. Magic stained with darkness is dull. The true meaning of magic is happiness. O'right?" voonz Nick reminded Summer. "Oui, monsieur," she replied. They headed on to meet the others whom she hasn't seen for a while. She missed them. They are going to eat lunch at Kheilev's like always.
