Mason sat in a chair in the hospital corridor, staring at the small patch of dark red on the toe of his shoe. The blood on the practice room floor had seeped so far along the cracks between the tiles. He had examined Chloe's wound, a small cut on her toe. After cleaning and a simple bandage, it was fine, not enough to cause that much bleeding. The blood had come from somewhere else. Mason stood up and walked toward the end of the corridor. Caleb was leaning against the window, on the phone, arranging for Chloe's transfer to a rehab facility. Mason asked, "Where is she?" Caleb hung up the phone and turned his head. He asked, "Who?"
