THIS MIGHT HAVE BEEN the first time I’d ever woken up wondering where I was, without having to drink myself unconscious first. I wasn’t sure I liked the concept. It was also unusual for me to wake up wearing handcuffs. Not completely unheard of, to be honest, but it certainly wasn’t the norm. I pushed myself into a sitting position, leaning back against the wall for support, and tried to make sense of my surroundings. The Beast lay a few feet away, not yet awake.
