“I can’t thank you enough,” she gushed, hanging on Stevie’s arm as we exited onto the late afternoon streets of Hillbrow. “Thanks to you, we now have a chance to survive the coming age of darkness. I swear, your sacrifice won’t have been in vain. As soon as the child arrives, I’ll make sure that everyone knows how you gave up your immortality for the sake of humanity.” She nodded in my direction. “And for that.”
The Beast smiled. “That’s all still to come. I’ve always lived in the present. John, where’s the nearest bar that hasn’t been torn apart yet by shootouts and magickal rituals?”
I pointed towards Nugget Hill, a short walk from the Chelsea.
“Do you have any suggestions for names? If it’s a girl, how about Amber? Or Geraldine?”
