The rain continued to fall heavily over the old warehouse, covering the entire city in a dark and mysterious atmosphere. Aria Moretti stood frozen outside the broken window, unable to understand how one simple decision to take a shortcut had turned into the most terrifying night of her life. Her heart was beating so loudly that she could almost hear it over the sound of the storm, and her hands trembled as she slowly reached down to pick up her phone from the wet ground. She wanted to run, to leave that place and pretend she had never seen anything, but the moment she looked inside and saw the number of armed men surrounding her, she knew escaping would not be easy. The fear inside her was real, but something stronger pushed her to remain standing—her stubborn refusal to let anyone see her as weak.
Inside the warehouse, Dante Valentino watched her carefully through the broken glass. Unlike the other people who entered his world, Aria did not look like someone searching for his secrets or trying to use them against him. She looked like a young woman who had accidentally stepped into a dangerous situation she did not understand. However, Dante had learned one important lesson in his life: accidents rarely happened in his world. Every person, every meeting, and every event could be connected to a hidden plan. When his men searched her identity and discovered her name, the calm expression on Dante’s face changed slightly.
“Her name is Aria Moretti,” one of his men said quietly.
For a moment, the entire warehouse became silent.
Dante’s eyes narrowed as the name repeated in his mind.
Moretti.
A name connected to betrayal, pain, and the destruction of everything he once loved.
Years ago, the Moretti family had taken something from him that could never be replaced. They had destroyed his father’s reputation, caused the collapse of his family’s business, and left Dante with the responsibility of rebuilding an empire while carrying a wound that never fully healed. He had spent years searching for the truth behind what happened, but every path eventually led back to Luciano Moretti. Now, standing in front of him was the daughter of the man he believed had ruined his family.
Dante slowly walked toward the warehouse door while the rain continued pouring around him. His men immediately moved aside because they knew their leader never made careless decisions. Aria watched him approach, trying to understand the man everyone feared. She had seen him on magazine covers and business reports, but seeing him in person was different. The person in front of her was not just a billionaire businessman; he carried an intimidating presence that made the entire room feel smaller. Yet behind his cold eyes, Aria noticed something she did not expect—a hidden sadness that disappeared almost as quickly as it appeared.
“Who are you?” Dante asked, even though he already knew the answer.
Aria looked at him defensively. “You already know who I am. Your men checked my phone, didn’t they?”
Dante remained silent for a moment.
“I asked you a question.”
She lifted her chin slightly. “Aria Moretti.”
The moment she said her surname, Dante’s expression became colder.
“Moretti,” he repeated.
Aria noticed the change in his voice.
“What is wrong with my name?”
Dante ignored the question.
“Do you know where you are?”
Aria looked around the warehouse. “A place where powerful men think they can do whatever they want because nobody can stop them.”
Some of the men exchanged surprised looks.
Nobody spoke to Dante Valentino like that.
But Aria was too angry and frightened to care.
One of the men stepped forward immediately. “You should be careful with your words.”
Aria looked at him. “Should I be scared because you are holding a weapon?”
The man’s expression hardened, but before he could respond, Dante spoke.
“Enough.”
His single word stopped everyone.
Dante looked back at Aria. “You have no idea what you witnessed tonight.”
“I saw a group of men threatening another person,” Aria replied. “What exactly am I supposed to think?”
Dante’s face remained emotionless. “You saw a part of a world you were never supposed to enter.”
Aria gave a small laugh, although fear still filled her chest. “And what happens now? You make me disappear?”
Dante studied her reaction carefully.
Most people begged when they stood before him.
They cried.
They apologized.
But Aria questioned him.
“You think I am the kind of man who kills every person who crosses my path?” Dante asked.
Aria looked directly into his eyes.
“I think you are the kind of man who has enough power to do whatever he wants.”
For a second, Dante had no answer.
Because she was not completely wrong.
Before he could respond, footsteps echoed through the warehouse. A familiar voice called his name.
“Dante.”
Marco Romano entered the room, his expression immediately changing when he noticed Aria standing there. Marco had known Dante since they were young and understood his personality better than anyone. He knew Dante did not allow strangers near him, especially people connected to enemies. The moment Marco heard Aria’s surname, his suspicion increased.
“Tell me I heard wrong,” Marco said quietly.
Dante looked at him.
“What?”
“She is a Moretti?”
Aria looked between them. “Why does everyone react like my name is a crime?”
Marco ignored her question and focused on Dante.
“You know what this means.”
Dante’s jaw tightened.
“Yes.”
Marco lowered his voice. “Her father destroyed your family.”
Aria froze.
“What are you talking about?”
The two men became silent.
That silence hurt Aria more than an answer would have.
“My father is a businessman,” she said firmly. “Not whatever story you are trying to create.”
Dante looked at her.
“Sometimes the people closest to us are the ones who hide the biggest secrets.”
Aria shook her head. “You don’t know my father.”
Dante stepped closer.
“And you don’t know him as well as you think.”
Those words stayed in her mind.
Because somewhere deep inside, Aria remembered the locked office in her father’s house, the late-night phone calls he refused to explain, and the way certain people became uncomfortable whenever his past was mentioned.
Dante turned away and looked toward the rain outside. He knew allowing Aria to leave was dangerous. If his enemies discovered she had witnessed what happened, they would not hesitate to use her against him. But keeping her close meant bringing the daughter of his enemy into his personal world. It was a decision that went against everything he believed in, but for the first time in years, he needed answers more than revenge.
“Take her to the mansion,” Dante ordered.
Aria immediately looked at him.
“Excuse me?”
“You heard me.”
“I’m not going anywhere with you.”
Dante looked back at her.
“You think you still have a choice?”
Anger flashed in her eyes.
“You cannot control my life.”
Dante stared at her for a moment before answering.
“No. But I can protect it.”
Aria hated that his words sounded sincere.
She hated that part of her believed him.
And she hated even more that from the moment she stepped into Dante Valentino’s world, everything she thought she knew about her life was beginning to fall apart.
That night, Dante Valentino made a decision that would change both of their futures.
He would keep Aria Moretti close.
Not because he trusted her.
Not because he wanted her.
But because the truth about her family was buried deeper than anyone knew.
