Chapter 9: The Secret Luciano Hide

1012 Words
The silence inside the Moretti mansion became unbearable as everyone waited for Luciano Moretti to finally speak. Aria stood in the middle of the room, looking at the man she had admired and trusted her entire life, yet for the first time, she felt as if she was standing in front of a stranger. The memories of her childhood suddenly felt different because every happy moment she remembered was now surrounded by questions she had never thought to ask. She remembered the nights her father came home late, the mysterious phone calls he refused to explain, and the way certain people became uncomfortable whenever his past was mentioned. For years, she had believed those moments were simply part of being the daughter of a successful businessman, but now she wondered if they were signs of a truth that had been hidden from her. Luciano slowly walked toward the large window overlooking the garden, his back facing everyone in the room. The confidence he usually carried as a powerful businessman seemed to disappear, replaced by the appearance of a tired man carrying a burden that had become too heavy to hide. Dante watched him carefully, his expression unreadable, because he had waited years for this moment. He had imagined confronting Luciano Moretti many times, but he never imagined that the man standing before him would look less like a villain and more like someone who had also been fighting his own battles. However, Dante refused to allow sympathy to weaken him because too many years of pain were connected to the Moretti name. “Say something,” Aria finally whispered, her voice filled with disappointment and confusion. Luciano closed his eyes for a moment before turning around. “You deserve the truth.” Dante’s expression immediately became serious. “Then tell her.” Luciano looked at him. “You still believe everything you were told about me, don’t you?” Dante stepped forward. “I believe what I saw.” The tension between the two men immediately filled the room. Aria looked between them, feeling like she was watching a battle that had started long before she was born. “Can someone please stop talking in riddles?” she said, her voice becoming more emotional. “I am the person everyone keeps protecting from the truth, but I am also the person whose life is being destroyed because of it.” Her words caused both men to become silent. Because she was right. For years, Dante and Luciano had been fighting a war based on the past, but Aria was the person forced to deal with the consequences in the present. Luciano slowly sat down, looking older than he had a few minutes earlier. “Twenty years ago, before you were born, the Moretti and Valentino families were not always enemies.” Aria’s eyes widened slightly. Dante remained still. He had never expected those words. Luciano continued, “Your father and Dante’s father once worked together. They built businesses together, trusted each other, and believed their families could create something powerful.” Dante’s expression changed. “My father trusted you.” Luciano looked down. “Yes.” The single word carried regret. “And that trust was destroyed.” Dante’s jaw tightened. “Because of you.” Luciano did not deny it. But his next words changed everything. “Because of a decision I made.” The room became completely silent. Aria looked at her father with disbelief. “What decision?” Luciano looked at his daughter, and the pain in his eyes was something she had never seen before. “A decision that I thought would protect my family.” Dante gave a cold laugh. “Protect your family?” His voice became sharper. “You destroyed mine.” Aria looked at Dante. For the first time, she heard the pain behind his anger. Not just hatred. Pain. Luciano looked at him. “You think I don’t know what I lost?” Dante stepped closer. “You still had your daughter.” The words were quiet but powerful. Luciano looked at Aria. And for a moment, guilt crossed his face. “I almost lost her too.” Aria froze. “What does that mean?” Luciano hesitated. And that hesitation made Dante suspicious. “What are you hiding now?” Luciano looked between them. “The night your family fell apart was not caused by only one person.” Dante’s expression changed. “What?” “There was someone else involved.” The room went silent. Someone else. A person neither of them had considered. Luciano continued, “The person who destroyed the Valentino family wanted both of our families to blame each other.” Dante stared at him. “You expect me to believe that?” “I expect you to investigate.” Aria looked confused. “Why would someone want our families against each other?” Luciano looked at his daughter with sadness. “Because when powerful families fight each other, they stop looking for the real enemy.” Those words stayed in the room. Dante had spent years seeking revenge against Luciano Moretti. But what if Luciano was not the person who destroyed everything? What if he had been another piece in someone else’s plan? Before anyone could speak again, Dante’s phone suddenly rang. He answered immediately. “What happened?” The voice on the other side spoke quickly. Dante’s expression changed. Aria noticed immediately. Something was wrong. “What is it?” she asked. Dante ended the call and looked at everyone. “We need to leave.” Marco, who had been standing quietly near the entrance, immediately moved. “Dante?” Dante looked toward Aria. “They found us.” A cold fear moved through her body. “Who?” Dante’s eyes became dark. “The people who don’t want the truth to come out.” And in that moment, Aria realized something terrifying. The secrets surrounding her family were not just about the past. They were the reason someone was willing to kill in the present.
