The silence stretched, heavy and endless. It wasn’t the kind of quiet that came from peace. It was the kind that watched. I could sense him standing there, only a breath away. I didn’t have to look to know his eyes were on me. I could feel them-steady, unblinking, like he was reading something I didn’t even know I was showing. I wanted to say something. Anything. A small word to make the moment less real. But my voice wouldn’t move past my throat. So I stayed still. The soft hum of the air conditioner became the only sound between us. It made the quiet worse somehow-too ordinary for how unreal this felt. When I finally dare to breathe, the sound escaped too quickly, sharp and uneven. His presence didn’t shift, but the space around us did. Every inch of it felt alive with waiting. I
