The light on the twelfth floor wasn’t like the others. It was softer, dimmer-a pale gold glow that stretched across the hall, falling over walls of glass and steel. Everything looked perfect, untouched, but there was something about it that made my skin crawl. It was too quiet. Too clean. Like the air itself was holding its breath. Damian didn’t move right away.
