I couldn’t keep circling the room like a trapped animal. If there was a camera, I would never find it like this. And i he was watching. If he was already seeing every breath I took in the towel-then crawling around the floor and searching vents didn’t matter. He already won. Unless i proved him wrong. Unless I showed myself I wasn’t scared. But I was. God, I was. My hands clutched the towel like a shield. My mind raced with places I hadn’t checked-the smoke detector, the clock, the back of the TV, the tiny screw in the wall near the light switched. But something inside me snapped before I could start again. Enough. I needed to think. To breathe. To face the one thing I kept avoiding. Then the closest.. My feet moved slowly across the floor, the soft sound of the towel brushing
