Chapter 9

I could literally feel everyone's eyes on me as I did my job. The sudden attention made me a little clumsier than usual. I allowed myself to look up at the guy who had just entered the restaurant and found him staring at me, his eyes were only on me. My cheeks heated up and I averted my gaze from him and looked at the table again, spraying the soap and wiping it thoroughly. "Um, Hazel" I heard Blair call me and I looked up at her with a polite smile on my face. "Yes, Blair?" I asked, carefully avoiding my eyes from falling on the guy with piercing green eyes. Blair looked at the man in front of her a chuckled nervously, "You can stop wiping the tables now" She said, glancing my way now. She was smiling but her eyes were tight. "They are not clean yet" I complained, looking back at the table that I wasn't finished wiping yet.  "Nevermind," She said, waving her hands dismissively at me. Sighing, I out the soap and the rag cloth on the basket before going to her side to stand. The customers in the restaurant watched my every move without taking their eyes off me. That's not normal at all. "What's wrong?" I asked Blair the moment I reached her side. She just laughed nervously shaking her head at me. I narrowed my eyes at her before looking at the guy in front of her. "Um, it would be nice if you put on a shirt, "I said politely and the guy looked taken aback by what I had said. Blair on the other hand looked like she was about to pass out, "Alpha, I am sorry-" She started looking at the guy, with wide eyes but the guy stopped her by rudely raising his hand in front of her. What a jerk. Before I could say something else, two new customers walked in and I quickly put on a big smile on my face, "Welcome" I sang, walking past everyone to greet those customers. The customers looked at me in distaste then they looked behind me, their eyes going round and wide. They bowed their head in respect and I looked behind just in time to see the guy with green eyes nodding his head at them. What is he the mayor of this city? He looked a little young to be mayor though. I rolled my eyes at him before looking to the front again. I do not have time for someone who thinks that they are high and mighty. Jason and his group of guys went to sit at the table that they were sitting before along with the green-eyed man. Thankfully, the guy had some decency to put on a shirt. But, I still ignored them and continued to do my job until my shift is over. For some reason, Blair kept throwing worried looks my way but I didn't ask anything about it to her. She looked really shaken since the green-eyed man's arrival. Maybe she's just very uncomfortable near him. Heck, even I was very uncomfortable near him. I toyed with the necklace Enzo had given me when I felt a burning gaze on the side of my face as I worked. He had been staring at me without blinking and I shivered when I felt his gaze touch all over my body. Wiping the last table, I wiped off the perspiration that had formed on my forehead and let out a relieved sigh. I undid the apron and put it in my bag before walking towards Blair again. The guys were still in the restaurant even though we were almost closing now. Blair said, she would close the restaurant today with Jason and I nodded my head at that. "Alright, I think I'll go now," I said, grabbing my bag in my hands. Blair nodded and held out the money at me, "Here is your salary for today" She said, just like yesterday. I gingerly took the money in my hands and smiled up at her, "Thanks, Blair" I said before stepping out of the restaurant. I started to walk towards the hostel but a voice stopped me dead in my tracks, "Do you need a lift?" I heard someone ask from behind me, making me jump a foot above the ground, startled. I put my hand over my heart and turned behind to see the green-eyed man looking at me in amusement, "Um no thanks, I will just walk" I said, letting out a nervous chuckle. "Then, I will walk with you," He said, coming to stand next to me. Alright. This man is definitely starting to get on my nerves but I restrained myself from saying anything to him. I already have enough haters at this place and I do not want to add more to that list. Besides, it is a free country. Everyone is allowed to everything except harming anyone. I gave him a weak smile and nodded my head. I put a hand over the pendant on my neck and played with it while we walked silently, side by side. He didn't say anything after that. He was quiet but I didn't miss the way he kept throwing me glances when he thought I wasn't looking. To be honest, it was starting to get creepy now. I even debated if I should call a cab so I can ditch him politely. I heard my phone vibrating in my bag so I paused my steps making the green-eyed man halt into a stop too. I fished out my phone from the bag and answered it without looking at the caller id, knowing full well that it's probably Leila. "Hey, Leila," I said, pressing the phone against my ear. "How are you doing?" Was the first thing Leila asked and it made me smile. I started walking again and the green-eyed man easily kept pace with me, "Great, I joined at Blair's restaurant and I will be eternally grateful for your help" I said, knowing that I owe her way too much now. Leila hummed in answer from the other side, "Did you make any new friends at the college" She asked me and my thoughts immediately went to the one girl who was kind enough to start a conversation with me at my college. Shailey. I sighed and nodded my head, "Well, you could say that" I said, trying to keep my voice vacant of any emotion. I heard Leila let out a sigh, "Your father came asking for you but I told him I don't know where you're now" She said, making me feel bad now. I noticed the green-eyed man perk up a little and I suspected if he could hear this conversation. I moved away from him, putting a much greater distance between the two of us. But still, something in me told me that he still could hear Leila. Scowling at that indecent man, I shook my head, "I knew he would come" I said, looking ahead now, "I am sorry, Leila" I apologized, knowing I had put her in an uncomfortable position. I could imagine my father barking at her, demanding loudly to know my whereabouts. "Not a problem" She chirped happily, downplaying it, "Noah misses you, you know?" She said, changing the subject now. I smiled at the mention of Noah, "I miss him too" I grinned. I was about to say something else when I heard something snap in the bushes next to me making me gasp. "I think I heard something," I said, squinting my eyes at the bushes, trying to get a better look. Suddenly, arms went around my body and I was lifted from the ground. I let out a shriek in surprise as my feet dangled in the air for a few seconds before he tucked me into his chest, cradling me. Then the green-eyed man tightened his hands around my body and then started running towards the college. I looked up at him in shock, "Are you okay?" I heard Leila ask worriedly as the phone was still pressed against my ear. I blinked and quickly got myself together, "I'll call you back in a while," I said to her before ending the call before looking up at him again. His eyes were not on me. Instead, he looked around the area like something is out there. His eyes scanned the bushes as he ran with me in his arms. I cleared my throat uneasily, "Put me down" I commanded calmly but he didn't even spare a glance down at me and that made me angry, "I said put me down" I hissed through my teeth in a louder voice when he ignored me. Jeez, you can't go around cradling strangers. "HELP!" I started to scream at top of the my lungs when he didn't put me down. I moved my legs and arms, trashing against him but that made him tighten the grip he had on me, locking me in his steely arms. "Let me go, please" I pleaded in a soft voice when I realized that I was no match for his strength. My voice cracked a little and it took everything in me to not bursting out into tears. Why wouldn't fate allow me to live my life in peace? The man looked down at me and I found myself gazing into those piercing green eyes, "I will in a while" He said before looking ahead, still running. He didn't even gasp to catch his breath! I mean, he was running effortlessly with me in his hands at a steady speed. I couldn't even run at the school during PE. I was about to complain again but then he stopped running suddenly and put me back to my feet. Once my feet touched the ground, I scrambled away from him. I put a safe distance between us again before glaring murderously at him. Who does he think he is! I opened my mouth to give him an earful and warn him to not come anywhere near me again but he beat me to it, "You have to go now" He said, his eyes darting around cautiously, "Get back to your place as fast as you can" He commanded, pushing me towards the campus gate. The security who was guarding the campus came out running when he heard us and he immediately bowed in front of that green-eyed man, "Alpha!" He cried out, "I didn't know you would come here," The security said, eyeing me suspiciously. "Get her in safely" Alpha commanded the security guard before starting to run towards the way we came making me stare at his retreating figure, baffled. Who is this man?
